Americas League – the merge is finally happening
Riot Games announced the new league today, utilizing a similar format to the one used in the company’s other flagship title, VALORANT.
According to Riot, the league will be split into two conferences North America and South America) with the LCS and CBLOL participating in each separately. While it’s not much different from the current system, the LLA will be losing its status as a region and will be given a slot in each of the two Americas conferences.

In the end, this will allow Riot to better organize its tier-one League of Legends ecosystem. By following the footsteps of the VALORANT ecosystem, the Americas League will consist of teams from both continents.
2025 – multiple mergers happening across the entire globe
Americas is not the only league with changes happening for the upcoming season. Riot also announced that the Pacific regions will be merged into one. The PCS already englobed the LJL (Japan) and the LCO (Oceania) this year after several teams ended up leaving the leagues but in 2025, Vietnam will also be part of the new multi-region league. This means that all the minor regions will be put into one, leaving China and Korea as the only two Asian standalone regions.
How does the merger impact the seeding for international events?
Based on the update given by Riot, which also includes the announcement of a third international event, each region would have one slot at the new event, two slots at MSI, and three slots at Worlds.
Just like this year, however, the top two performing regions at MSI will gain one additional Worlds slot, meaning that Worlds will feature a total of 17 teams starting in 2025. Riot also revealed that Worlds 2025 would feature Play-Ins as a single Best-of-5 match, with the winner joining the other 15 qualified teams directly in the Swiss stage.
With the LCS starting on June 15, this will mark the end of an era in LoL esports.
