Riot Games to lower Blue Essence costs of all LoL Champions

After days of complaints and general disappointment, Riot Games has finally listened to its community. In the latest Dev Update, and the following Dev Blog, the team has announced it will allow new player to acquire champions at a discount, with the Blue Essence prices being halved. The change will be applied on Patch 25.05, which is scheduled to be released on March 5, 2025.

While this change won’t really matter for the old folks who have been playing League of Legends in the past decade, it will definitely be helpful to the new players and accounts, which get access to limited Blue Essence and champions’ costs make every champion choice count.

This will mainly impact the newer champions, like Mel, as well as the 6300 Blue Essence champions, which will be priced at 3150 RP. It’s unclear whether champions like Jhin, who has a special pricing (4444 BE) due to its in-game theme, will be subject to changes. Riot Games taking a step back from their decisions

Aside from the Blue Essence reduction which will benefit the newer player base, Riot Games has also announced the return of Hextech Chests, to the joy of the entire LoL community. While it will still be in fewer quantities, the overall sentiment is that the company is willing to make changes when challenged.

Hextech Chests were a major talking point over the past week, with several players even starting a petition to remove Riot Games’ CEO, Dylan Jadeja, expressing their frustration with the company’s upper management for pursuing profits over the player experience.
