Worlds 2024 Play-ins viewership – continuous peaks of over 1 million people

On Day 2 of the Play-In stage, GAM Esports faced Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS while 100 Thieves played against Rainbow7. While these weren’t considered big matches, the day still generated seven-figure viewership.

According to esports data platform Esports Charts, the match between GAM Esports and Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS peaked at 1.16M viewers. Driven by Vietnamese audiences, with Chinese, Korean, and Japanese audiences also contributing, the total Asian viewership contributed to 56.3% of the total peak, showcasing Worlds’ growth in viewership.

In particular, the Vietnamese audience was the most popular language of the day with 402.3K Peak Viewers, proving that fans are heavily invested in their regional teams. The official Vietnam Championship Series YouTube channel was the most popular Vietnamese stream, recording 239.8K peak concurrent viewers.

It’s worth noting that the VCS TikTok account also saw more than 30K peak viewers, becoming a trendsetter for other regions and languages this year.

Co-streamer Ibai and its influence on Spanish audience

100T’s surprising loss against Rainbow7 was also a big hot topic on Day 2 and spanish-speaking viewers showed up to cheer on their LLA team.

In particular, Spanish celebrity and co-caster ibai peaked at 98.4K viewers during the match, as co-streamers like him and Caedrel continue to register high numbers every play day. While it’s not as high as the opening series between MDK and VKE, Ibai’s influence and contribution to Worlds viewership was substantial.

With GAM already qualified for the Swiss stage, we should expect even higher Vietnamese audience numbers in the upcoming weeks, especially considering Pool 4 teams will face a Pool 1 team in the first round (one team between BLG, HLE, G2, and FLY).
