What is KDA in LoL? It’s time to learn everything about one of the most fundamental and important metrics in the game.

KDA, which stands for Kills, Deaths, and Assists, is a fundamental performance metric in League of Legends. The statistical metric is used to assess a player’s performance and contribution within a game. While it’s not defining proof of a player’s ability, it does reflect individual skill and teamwork.
Kills: The number of enemy champions a player has directly eliminated. Getting a lot of kills allows to snowball since it grants additional gold and experience, which in turn, makes the champion stronger through items and level-ups.
Deaths: This counts how many times a player has been killed by the opposing team. In every given game, it’s important to minimize the number of deaths since it denies enemies from getting additional experience, gold, and the opportunity to pick up neutral objectives on the map.
Assists: Assists are awarded when a player contributes to the kill of an enemy champion within a timeframe before their death, without actually delivering the final blow. Assists are also assigned if a champion ends up granting a heal or a shield to one of the allies that were part of the kill, which is also why supports often end up with more assists than anyone else in the game.
The number is simply obtained by summing the number of kills and assists and dividing it by the number of deaths.
Whenever a player achieves 0 deaths in a given game, we would usually say he achieved a perfect KDA, especially if he has many kills and assists.

Many other factors allow us to gauge a player’s performance in a game: KDA is just one of those. This is because KDAs only tell us how much of a contribution a player had in the kills department, but other stats like the vision score, damage dealt, and laning stats are equally important. So don’t judge players solely based on their KDA.
While the answer might be obvious, a player should aim to die as little as possible and contribute to as many kills as possible in the team. Avoid unnecessary deaths and don’t take risky plays that can allow the enemies to snowball. Focus on making coordinated team plays to secure more kills.

Even though there isn’t a clear definition of what is a good KDA, you should usually aim for a number above 1, which means you achieve at least one kill (or assist) for every death. Great performance should usually lead to KDA numbers above 2.
