The League of Legends PBE is a one-of-a-kind tool that many games do not possess. It’s an area for fans to test out new champions, items, maps, and features that may or may not be implemented into the game. This is Riot Games’ sandbox, an opportunity for them to iron out the issues of their new creations before they hit the live server. Thinking of getting one of the upcoming LoL skins? Why don’t you try it in the Public Beta Environment first before spending your hard-earned money as refunds are not always an option in LoL.
The PBE has a schedule that does not align with the live server. This is to give Riot time to work out any immediate issues that could cause League of Legends to crash.
The server is located in North America, Los Angeles to be specific, where the Riot Games HQ resides. Therefore, any player that wishes to play on the PBE will experience high ping. For TFT enjoyers, the ping won’t be an issue as the PBE also plays host to upcoming sets.

In the past, Riot was strict on who could gain access to a League of Legends Public Beta environment. Previous PBE account players had to meet certain requirements, one of those being a modeled LoL player. That means you had to have had your account to a certain LoL honor level to be eligible for access. On top of that, the player must not be going through an active ban or penalty with the account they are using in the application.
But now, the gloves are off, and according to a recently updated FAQ article, any player can now apply for a PBE account.
That doesn’t mean you can start being a toxic player, however. This server is not for your competitive try hards, it is for players to learn new champions, test out new builds, and much more. Riot updates the PBE daily with constant server maintenance, to ensure everything is working as intended. Riot takes toxicity on the PBE very seriously, and while many restrictions have been lifted, it doesn’t mean they are not watching to see how their players are behaving after the new updates.
