League of Legends – Where is Jax from in the game?
Jax doesn’t seem to have much of a clear backstory: most have come to know that Jax is a skilled warrior who wields his lamppost picked up from the streets of Piltover, a city from the LoL universe.
Some theories suggested that Jax could’ve been the most powerful summoner in the game thanks to his magical prowess. So powerful that the governing body in the game’s lore, the Council of Equity, imposed restrictions on his ability to use his power. Thus came Jax’s choice to fight with a lamppost, as he wanted to prove his incredible combat skill without relying on the magical artifacts. This also shows that Jax is very hard to counter.
Jax’s origins
Jax was initially known as Saijax Cail-Rynx Icath’un, and he was born and raised in Icathia, a vassal state of the Shuriman Empire. Raised by his father, Jax came to know of the Kohari, a group of heroes who served the Mage King, the former ruler of Icathia before it was taken over. The Mage King tried to defend Icathia from the Shuriman’s attack but he was defeated in battle. In his honor, the Kohari committed ritual suicide. During his early years, Saijax’s father passed down this resentment towards the Shuriman to his child which led to Saijax starting the study of arms. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to protect Icathia from falling.
His presence at the time, however, proves that Jax is more than 3500 years old, making him among the eldest champions in League of Legends, both in terms of game release date as well as lore age.
Fun fact: Jax has been one of the longest-standing champions in the League of Legends universe. Added in the Alpha week 2, Jax was among the first 40 characters to make it in Riot Games’ MOBA title. But despite his long presence, little is known about what is supposed to be one of the most powerful champions in the lore.
