Man City Esports Opens New Facility in the Etihad Stadium

Manchester continues to get more invested in the esports industry with this latest development. It has just been announced that Man City Esports, the gaming-based branch of the Manchester City Football Club, has built an esports facility in the Etihad Stadium, located just over a mile from the city centre. This facility will be the home for the organisation’s EA FC and Fortnite pro players, offering stations to play games, practice, and make long- and short-form content to publish online.

This prestigious facility has been built in the heart of one of the most legendary football stadiums in the world. It’s a prolific undertaking, too – only the finest equipment has been used to flesh out the facility, including gaming chairs provided by Herman Miller. Immediately outside the windows of the facility sits the grounds of the Etihad Stadium itself, offering esports players an unparalleled perspective of the football pitch below.

Manchester City narrowly missed out on securing the trophy during the recent Champions League Final, but the squad should be shaping up to win the English Premier League. Recently, players competing under the Man City Esports banner secured their championship titles in the ePremier League, showing that the club has talents both on the traditional pitch and the virtual fields. Not only that but Man City’s Fortnite players recently secured qualification to the FNCS Global Championship.

Over time, traditional football clubs are opening their doors to esports teams and the practice of competitive gaming. It’s a match made in heaven, and it makes sense for the two businesses to unite. In the last few years, we’ve seen countless traditional athletes invest in esports teams – or found their own organisations using the money they’ve made from years competing in their respective sports.

The new gaming studio at the Etihad Stadium is the latest testament to the club’s growing interest in competitive gaming.

If you’re interested in more news like this, I recently caught up with FC Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski and asked him about the alignment between esports and traditional sports.
