Best Build for Spike in Brawl Stars

Spike is one of the most useful legendary brawlers in Brawl Stars who is well known for his relatively high damage output. However, similar to other playable characters in the game, you must pair Spike with the right gadgets and gears to create a perfect build and get the most out of him. With that said, we’ll walk you through the best Spike build to use in Brawl Stars and maximize the Brawler’s potential.

Best Gadget

  • Popping Pin Cushion – Recommended
Spike shoots three waves of 10 needles each in all directions which deals 1120 damage per needle. The waves are half a second apart and can deal up to 33,600 damage if all needles hit. However, this gadget is canceled if Spike is knocked back or stunned.
    • The best use of this gadget is in Heist where you can deal massive damage to the safe by standing close and activating it. It’s also effective against melee brawlers like Mortis who need to dash close to Spike to attack.
  • Life Plant
    • Spike spawns a large cactus with 2400 HP. The cactus blocks projectiles and heals allies within 3.33 tiles for 1440 HP when it’s destroyed. This gadget is especially useful for tanking damage from single-projectile brawlers like Piper or Brock.
    • The Life Plant gadget synergizes well with Spike’s kit as it offers both defensive utility and healing. For example, you can drop Life Plant to block the shot and heal up if Piper uses her Homemade Recipe to finish you off.

Best Star Power

  • Fertilize
    • This star power allows Spike to heal 1200 HP per second while standing in his super’s area of effect. It’s particularly useful in Hot Zone where staying alive and maintaining control is essential.
  • Curveball – Recommended
    • Spike’s shots curve in a clockwise motion instead of traveling straight which increases their effective range and makes it easier to hit targets. This star power is excellent for hitting enemies behind walls or in tight spaces.
    • Curveball can dominate as players struggle to dodge the unpredictable movement of the spikes at lower trophy levels. At higher levels, opponents may adapt but firing multiple attacks in quick succession makes dodging much harder.

Best Gears

We recommend using the following two gears with Spike in Brawl Stars:

  • Sticky Spike: It amplifies his slowing effect by an additional 30%. This makes him super incredibly powerful as it becomes nearly impossible for enemies to escape.
  • Shield: Spike has a relatively low amount of HP which means the extra 900 health as a consumable shield can help you secure the victory. The shield also regenerates after 10 seconds when Spike’s health is full.

Tips and Tricks to play Spike in Brawl Stars

First of all, as mentioned earlier, Spike has a relatively low amount of HP, despite receiving a buff in the November update. So make sure you’re keeping your distance as much as possible. It’s better to stay back and use your knowledge of where the spikes will explode to hit enemies. You can shoot in the general area of enemies and rely on the spikes’ spread to deal damage.

This strategy is especially useful for shooting around walls or scouting bushes. For example, Spike’s main attack can hit people hiding or healing behind walls which makes it great for zoning and controlling the map. However, Spike’s damage potential outweighs his low health as multiple spikes can land on the same target during close range combats.

Finally, you can rely on spreading your shots and hoping the spikes hit but keep in mind that landing direct hits is critical. This makes Spike a powerful high-DPS brawler which is specifically effective against tanks.
