Free Fire, one of the most-played mobile battle royale titles worldwide, is set to get its own anime adaption. Garena announced the anime for the game earlier today in a press release, and it will be produced by Japanese anime production studio, KAWADOKAWA. Here’s what we know about it so far.

Free Fire anime adaption is set to release soon
Currently, Garena hasn’t announced anything about the anime adaptation. The company said in the press release that it will be broadcast and streamed worldwide. However, the timeline for its release wasn’t announced.
Free Fire has a vibrant lore, though, which Garena has been building up through short videos, comics, and even a movie. Most of these are released as Free Fire Tales and can be found on the official YouTube channel for the game.
The first episode of Free Fire Tales was called ‘How to Start a Fire’ and was released in April 2022. It tracked the story of Hayato Yagami, in the dystopian Free Fire world.
For the unaware, Free Fire’s lore actually begins in 2017 when “The Great Collapse” happens. In this, a coronal mass ejection from the sun plunges Earth into chaos leading to the rise of the Horizon Co., by 2025. This company wanted to shape the world and developed cutting-edge tech to evolve the human race. The Bermuda Island in Free Fire is actually this company’s “stress environment.” The company captures people and puts them here to force mutations.
This is also the reason why different Free Fire characters have varying powers ups. Many of these Free Fire characters are based on real-life people as well. While information about the Free Fire anime hasn’t been revealed yet, it will be interesting to see where, and when will it be set.
Garena reveals Free Fire has 100 million daily active users
Anime aside, the press release announcing the adaption revealed one more interesting thing. Garena said that the game has crossed 100 million daily active users (DAU) in February 2024.
This would make it one of the most-played titles worldwide. Garena has been able to accomplish this feat through regular updates and collaborations with stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo.
