The Pictomancer is one of the two jobs you can unlock in FFXIV Dawntrail, alongside the Viper. The newest Magical Ranged DPS in Final Fantasy XIV, the Pictomancer will paint their way to victory using the magic of art.
With this new magical DPS packing some serious damage potency, many players will be rushing to unlock and play this arcane artist. Here’s a quick guide on how to unlock the Pictomancer for FFXIV Dawntrail.
The Pictomancer, like other jobs from later expansions, isn’t actually unlocked in the Dawntrail areas. Instead, you’ll be headed to the familiar locale of Old Gridania, (X:8.0 Y:10.3), where you’ll need to talk to the Cheerless Hearer. The Hearer will give you the quest “The Joy of Pictomancy” and after completing this, you’ll unlock the Pictomancer job in FFXIV.

You’ll need to be a Disciple of War or Magic of level 80 or above to unlock this, and you’ll want to have space in your inventory for a whole new gear kit including weapon. Otherwise, you’re good to go. Enjoy the magic of painting!

The Pictomancer was a job revealed in the 6.5 patch series of FFXIV with your companion, Krile, unlocking the secrets of Pictomancy. The Warrior of Light can now take up the brush and join the fray with Pictomancy as of 7.0.
Pictomancy was reportedly a lost art, with ties to the legendary War of the Magi. According to their lore:
“Pictomancers wield vibrant hues of aether to invoke all manner of fantastical beasts, weapons, and landscapes from their mind’s eye─for the source of a pictomancer’s power lies not in their artistic skill, but the richness of their imagination.”
And, as per the latest patch notes (at the time of writing), their damage numbers are significant, so well worth picking up this unique job!
