PMGC 2022 Group Red: Big upsets and teams qualified for Grand Finals
The PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022’s first week has ended. After an intense four days of action, the Red Group matches have been concluded with three teams qualifying for the Grand Finals. Five other teams have been eliminated from the competition as well.
The PMGC 2022 features a prize pool of $4 million. As many as 48 teams from around the world are competing in the league stage for a slot in the grand finals. The league stage is happening in Malaysia. The grand finals, on the other hand, will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia.
PMGC 2022 Group Stage sees tough fights – at the top and bottom of the table
Tencent has completely revamped the format for the 2022 edition of the PMGC. The 48 teams have been split into three groups of 16 teams each. In each week, a group plays separately with the top three teams directly advancing to the Grand Finals.
The bottom five teams, on the other hand, are eliminated. The remaining teams still have a chance to make it to the grand finals through the Survival Stage.
As a result of this new format, the battles at the top and bottom of the table have been very intense. In group red, there have been several surprising performances. Additionally, a tournament favorite has already been knocked out from the competition.
Buriram United Esports were the champions of the Red Group with 300 total points from 24 matches. They almost didn’t get the victory, however, as they were trailing by 13 points ahead of the final two games to Brazil’s Influence Chemin.
They were able to completely turn their fortunes around, however, with a chicken dinner and a third-place finish in the final two matches.
At the bottom of the table, the biggest disappointment came in the form of Thailand’s The Infinity. Coming into the PMGC, they were one of the favorites to take the trophy with first-place victories at the PMPL Thailand, SEA Championship, and Regional Clash.
The Infinity couldn’t find their footing throughout the PMGC, group stage, however, and came in 12th place in their group.
