How to get Sylveon in Pokémon GO

Sylveon is the latest and most likely final Eevee evolution in the Pokémon franchise and many trainers are likely wondering how to get Sylveon in Pokémon GO. The Eevee Pokémon currently has eight evolutions that can be achieved. Sylveon is arguably the most challenging one. The first three, Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon, are usually random evolutions within Pokémon GO. The next five (Espeon, Umbreon, Glaceon, Leafeon and Sylveon) are more pointed. Here’s how to get Sylveon in Pokémon GO.

How to get Sylveon in Pokémon GO: Evolution instructions

Sylveon is a pure Fairy-type Pokémon. Eevee always evolves into a pure type of whichever type, which is why many speculated that all types would eventually get an Eevee evolution (a.k.a. an Eeveelution). However, Sylveon debuted in Generation VI. There have been three generations since with no new Eevee evolutions, so it’s probably not happening.

Nevertheless, Pokémon GO made Sylveon the hardest of the eight evolutions. To evolve it, trainers must follow these steps:

  1. Select an Eevee to be your buddy Pokémon.
  2. Ensure you have 25 candies. They will likely accumulate as you go about the rest of the process, though.
  3. Earn 70 hearts with your Eeevee as your buddy.
  4. Evolve to Sylveon.

At most, you can earn 12 hearts per day with your buddy Pokémon, so this will take a while. You are looking at a minimum of a week before you can get a Sylveon in Pokémon GO. These are the ways you can get hearts:

  • Take a picture of your buddy
  • Feed it berries until it joins your adventure
  • Walk with it in your adventure
  • Battle with it
  • Accept gifts from it
  • Visit somewhere new with it
  • Play together

If you do all of this every single day, you can get all 70 hearts within about six days. However, that is incredibly time consuming and takes a lot of effort. Most trainers take a while to earn a Sylveon. There is one shortcut for Pokémon GO, though.

Naming trick for Sylveon in Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, all Eevee evolutions have a name trick. Since there are so many, there’s a way to control which one you get without having to go about the aforementioned hearts route and the other convoluted evolution methods. By naming the Eevee something in particular, you can control the evolution. The unfortunate catch is that this will work exactly one time. For Sylveon, if you name the Eevee “Kira”, it will evolve into the Fairy-type.

The rest are:

  • Pyro – Flareon
  • Rainer – Vaporeon
  • Sparky – Jolteon
  • Sakura – Espeon
  • Tamao – Umbreon
  • Linnea – Leafeon
  • Rea – Glaceon

Each of these works once, so be very careful with how you use them. When selecting an Eevee to evolve into Sylveon, be sure to pay attention to a few things. First, the CP. You generally want high CP Pokémon and when they evolve, they become even stronger in that regard. However, the IVs are arguably more important. Evolving a two or three star Eevee into Sylveon is wiser than a low-IV, high CP Eevee. generally speaking.

Shiny Sylveon

Also, if you have a shiny Eevee, you may want to consider using the evolution techniques on it. Eevee was a Community Day spawn during August and December of 2021, so you may have some of the off-color Eevee. If so, consider using it to become your Sylveon. Shiny Sylveon looks like this in Pokémon GO.

If you like this, you can use your shiny to evolve to Sylveon. However, you may like another Eevee evolution’s shiny better, so be sure to do proper research before selecting the one you want to use. Sylveon is arguably the most powerful Eeveelution there is and Fairy-types are considered the best type in the game, so be very careful when making your choice here. Given that it requires 70 hearts to evolve, it’s important to make the right decision.
