What is a Raid or Incursion?
Raids are PvE events where Pokemon GO players team up to battle against a very powerful Pokemon. This Pokemon is controlled by AI, so your mission will be to cooperate with other players to defeat it and earn a juicy reward.
These types of events are limited, so they are not available all the time and have an active period. Additionally, raids are the only way to capture some rare Pokemon, such as Legendaries and Mythicals.
How to participate in a Raid or Incursion
To participate in a Raid, there are two main options: Interact with a Raid Egg at a Gym or receive an invitation from a friend.
The Raid Egg must either be about to hatch or already hatched for oyu to be able to take part. But getting involved is simple enough. With an invitation, you simply need to accept to start participating.
So, if you want to take part in a Raid, you should keep an eye on the current map status. You can check the nearest gyms and their status – the Raid Eggs are really easy to spot so you won’t struggle finding raids when they’re on. Just look for the egg on the Gym along with a timer.
When the timer reaches zero, it’s time for you to start your battle with the Raid Pokemon. Depending on the situation, capturing it may be more or less challenging.
Additionally, you need a Raid Pass to confront the Raid Pokemon. These can be purchased in the Shop or by spinning the Gym’s photo disc.

Remote raids
You can also start getting some Remote Raid Passes, which allow you to participate in Raids from other parts of the world.
Raid passes aren’t permanent though. You should consider that both Raid Passes are lost even if you fail in the Raid. Make sure you’re prepped and confident that you will win the battle before you start.

Types of Raids
In addition to all this, there are different types of Raids. Each one has its own reward and specific mechanics.
- Standard Raids: Easy enough – battle against the Pokemon to capture it.
- Mega Raids: Battle the Pokemon. The faster you defeat it, the more Mega Energy you’ll earn to Mega Evolve the Pokemon once captured.
- EX Raids: Special and only accessible by invitation after winning a standard Raid at an EX Gym. Here, you battle to capture rare and unique Pokemon.
- Elite Raid: Features 24-hour Raid Eggs and summons a Raid Boss that lasts 30 minutes. You can only participate in person, and it offers larger rewards.
- Dark Raids: Only battle against Dark Pokemon from Team GO Rocket and require you to be physically present at the Gym.

There are two tiers of Mega Raids: Mega Raids and Mega Legendary Raids. While Mega Raids feature powered-up Mega Pokemon, Mega Legendary Raids will feature even more powerful Mega Pokemon.
Keep in mind that Mega Legendary Pokemon are very powerful, so Mega Legendary Raids are more difficult than a standard Raid Battle or even a Mega Raid Battle.
To improve your chances of defeating the Mega Legendary Raid Boss, try Mega Evolving a Pokemon in your Raid Party, inviting Friends to join you in the Mega Legendary Raid, or both!
