What beats Psychic Pokémon? This type is often seen as one of the strongest in the game. Due to their unique abilities in the anime or their portrayal in the games, Psychic-types are some of the best. Mewtwo, Mew, Deoxys, Azelf and so many others are pure Psychic-type and among the strongest out there. When faced with battling one of these types, it’s important to know what beats it. This is true in all circumstances. You never want to have incorrect types leading to a disadvantage in a battle, but especially when facing Psychics.

What beats Psychic Pokémon? How to counter effectively

Psychic Pokémon are weak to Bug, Dark and Ghost-type moves. If you are facing Psychic-types, be sure to use these Pokémon or make sure they have moves of those types. This is only true for pure Psychic-type Pokémon, though. A secondary typing makes the weaknesses a little different. Pure Psychic-types are (through Generation IX):

If faced with one of these in battle, you need to have a Bug, Dark or Ghost type in your party.

Strong Pokémon to use in your battles with Psychic types

It’s always best to have the types that are super effective against your enemy in battle. For Psychic, that means you need to have Bug, Dark and Ghost. If that’s not possible, at least ensure you have Pokémon with a move of those types even if it’s not a Pokémon of that type. Furthermore, always be sure to avoid the Pokémon that Psychic-type is strong against. These are Fighting and Poison.

A few good Bug, Dark and Ghost (including some that have both types) Pokémon to use are:

Spectrier is a Ghost-type and good for battling Psychics

Other Pokémon that are Bug, Dark or Ghost with a secondary type that is not Fighting or Poison are also generally safe to use. Try out Aegislash, Froslass, Scizor, Bisharp, Grimmsnarl, Zarude or Tyranitar if you are in a bind.

Finally, it’s important to know your Pokémon’s moves and their stats when battling Psychics. If they are slow and weak, they may not be able to make an impact against a Psychic. Furthermore, if their moves are only to reduce the enemy’s stats or buff its own, that won’t be helpful on its own, either.
