Krafton Reveals PUBG 2.0 Roadmap: Unreal Engine 5, UGC, and New Game Modes
Krafton’s first quarter of 2025 earnings release is out, and the company recorded over $610 million in revenue, a huge 31.3 percent year-over-year increase. Another highlight of the earnings call was regarding PUBG 2.0, as Krafton aims to evolve the IP into a franchise “cherished across generations and regions for years to come.”

PUBG 2.0 isn’t Krafton’s first commitment. The company has spoken about it in the past; however, it has given fans a much-anticipated update on what it involves and what to expect.
At the core of the vision for PUBG 2.0 is Krafton’s goal of making its most valuable IP into an evergreen and sustainable property in the long run.
What To Expect In PUBG 2.0?
In the Krafton 1Q25 earnings call, TS Jang, the head of the PUBG franchise spoke about 2.0, particularly about the three main aspects around it.
“In the longer run, PUBG core services will evolve into a gameplay platform,” said Jang.
The features of PUBG 2.0 are as follows as the developer looks to expand its player count:
- Unreal Engine 5 Update: The game will be upgraded to UE5 which is currently in the pre-production stage.
- Gameplay diversification: This includes a “well-made mode” which is being developed with external studios. While it’s unclear what it is exactly, this will likely feature many different gameplay modes beyond the current core BR experience.
- UGC Content: The final focus is on user-generated content, bringing more features for fans.

Our key takeaway from these major changes is that the long-term pathway for PUBG is similar to its key rival, Fortnite. The latter has successfully integrated a wide variety of modes along with further user-generated ones, therefore expanding the experience from just battle royale. It will be interesting to see how PUBG 2.0 does the same.
The gameplay diversification and UGC features will go through updates and sequences in the second half of the year.
Other ways of engaging and streamlining the IP is through diverse cultural collabs and better shared content with other IPs, namely BGMI and PUBG Mobile. If you are looking to download the game, check out the PUBG size and system requirements.
