How to Half Flip in Rocket League – Rank Up Using This Mechanic
Life as a beginner in Rocket League can be quite overwhelming, as you will see many advanced movements being performed by experienced players. An example of this is the half flip, which is a great way to start moving around the field like the pros. So let’s take a look at how to half flip in Rocket League.
What is a Half Flip in Rocket League?
Learning to half flip is one of the essential mechanics you must learn if you want to climb the Rocket League ranks, and is a great way to start learning advanced movement.
As the name suggests, a half flip is where instead of completing a full 360 degree rotation, you cancel the flip halfway so that you are horizontal with the underneath of your car facing upwards.
If done correctly, the rotation through the air will leave you facing the opposite direction to where you started and, using air roll, you can land on your wheels for a smooth 180 degree transition. After half flipping, you can start boosting to help you gain momentum in the opposite direction, before turning over and letting your wheels on the ground.
The mechanic is mostly used as a much faster way to turn around, rather than having to use drift to point yourself in the opposite direction. Learning the half flip will give you a huge speed advantage when racing back to a ball that has gone over your head.

Tips for Learning How to Half Flip
If you are having problems starting off, try lowering your game speed in freeplay. This will allow you to play in slow motion, so that you can focus on pressing the right inputs and moving your joystick correctly. But don’t forget to switch back to normal speed to check on your improvement.
Also make sure that you are horizontal before you start boosting, as boost propels you forward in the direction you are facing. If your car isn’t perfectly horizontal, you won’t get momentum in the backwards direction, and the half flip will be unsuccessful.
