The FGC believes a Super Smash Bros. 6 announcement could be coming soon (but it may be cope)

One of my favorite things the FGC does is predict stuff about Super Smash Bros. This grew to its peak during Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, when everyone analyzed Masahiro Sakurai‘s tweets for signs of possible DLC fighters to such an extent that he begged them to stop. Let the dude ride a horse in peace, man.

Well, the FGC can’t be stopped from stuff like this. Ever since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was considered complete, everyone started speculating about Super Smash Bros. 6. Sakurai has confirmed that it’s happening eventually and that he will be a part of it. But that’s the extent of our confirmed details.

Now, some in the community believe the game could be announced very soon.

Here’s Why We May Be Getting a Super Smash Bros. 6 Reveal

Despite Ultimate having a massive roster of over 80 fighters, the FGC has continuously used mods to add even more characters to the platform fighter. The Smash community loves its mods, despite Nintendo being very, very strict about its IPs.

A known modder recently had some of its videos featuring modded characters blocked by Nintendo, initially reported by EventHubs. Beefy Smash Doods tweeted that they were “worried this moment might come” and there may be no solution.

While the situation is unfortunate — the Smash community is very sick of Nintendo meddling with the esports scene in an attempt to sabotage it — it may point to a promising development in regards to Super Smash Bros. 6. Or maybe we’re just coping again.

It seemed a bit strange that Nintendo chose now of all times to suddenly take down all of Beefy Smash Dood’s videos. The timing has made even Beefy Smash Doods wonder if it has something to do with a possible upcoming Nintendo Direct. Nintendo almost always has one in March… And maybe this one will announce Super Smash Bros. 6.

Like yeah, it does sound like cope. But Nintendo pushed Twitch to remove Project M (a modded version of Brawl) from its platform ahead of Super Smash Bros. 4. So there’s an established pattern of sorts here.

To add to the cope, Sakurai has said in the past that he only works on one game at a time. And he announced that Kirby Air Riders was done last month. That could very well mean that he is ready to turn his attention to Smash 6, the series he just can’t stay away from, no matter how hard he tries.

With all this in mind, I’m pretty confident that Super Smash Bros. 6 may be announced during the Nintendo Direct. Although I’d not expect it for a while after that. I’m sure Sakurai and his team have just gotten started. It may be more likely to see a Switch 2 Edition of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but that could also revitalize some hype around the game as the esports scene has began to dwindle.
