Things we still don’t know two weeks from the start of International 2024 – Prize pool, tournament format, talents and compendium

The International 2024 (TI13) kicks off on September 4, merely two weeks at the time of this article. Yet, many detail about TI13 has remained unconfirmed due to the lack of Valve’s announcement.

This includes the tournament format, talent line-up, hosts, total prize pool, and not to forget, Compendium.

TI13 Tournament Format, Compendium & other details

We absolutely know nothing about the specifics of TI13. Besides the venue, dates, and qualified teams, the rest of the information that should have been available months ago, remained undisclosed.

Notably, tournament format is an important information to know going into the tournament. Yet, for all we know, there are group stage and the main event. As such, we might just have to assume that TI13 tournament format is going to be the same as its predecessor.

Group Stage has two phases, Phase One is comprised of four groups of four (previously at TI12, it’s four groups of five due to the higher number of participating teams). Phase Two is a Seeding Decider, with presumably the remaining teams competing for their main event bracket placement. Fortunately, in all iterations of TI Championships, the main event has always been best-of-three double-elimination bracket.

Who are the hosts, commentators and analysts?

A bigger part of TI events is the talents that kept the whole show running. From the adrenaline rush of commentating fights to the breakdown of post-game analytics. And even the fun side shows, such as the host interactions and interviews.

Valve has not dropped a single name officially, but we can once again assume that many of our favorite talents will be present at TI13. This includes Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner, Owen “ODPixel” Davies, Natalie “NatTea” Mahoney, Jorien “Sheever” van der Heijden, Kevin “Purge” Godec, and everyone’s beloved sweetheart, Mira “Ephey” Riad.

Of course, the talent team list is much longer than the mentioned few, so it’s baffling that we have yet to know who are the TI13 talents and most crucially, hosts.

Prize Pool, Community Contribution & Compendium

Lastly, the Internationals Championship is the only Valve event that involves community contribution to fund its prize pool. While we already knew that the Battle Pass would not return, we had expected to at least know the prize pool amount and how it’s going to be funded.

Yet, at the moment, we only know that the TI13 prize pool is at least worth $1.6 million from Valve’s contribution. However, there is no information about the Compendium 2024, of which 25% of its revenue will go to TI13 prize pool.

With that said, Valve did make their announcement 14 days before the event last year, so this shouldn’t come as much of a shocker. Putting the International 2024 aside, well, at least we already know about the TI13 Cosplay and Short Film Contests.
