2023’s season has come to a close, crowning Evil Geniuses as the 2023 Champions. Defending the crown will be harder than before, largely in part to the team being scattered to the wind, with each of the rising stars finding new teams. Keep track of where the players have ended up after the dust has settled on the offseason.

With the completion of Ascension (Tier 2), and the introduction of the Chinese region, there’s more VCT 2024 Teams than last year. Which teams and players made the cut?

VCT Americas

VCT Americas sees its teams competing in Los Angeles for the season to qualify for other events. Newcomers G2 Esports reclaim their shot at Partnerships despite not playing in Ascension. The Guard bested M80 in Americas Ascension Grand Finals, ending their Lower Bracket run at 2nd place. The Guard, who has already shown signs of instability as an org, were denied Partnerships despite their win. Controversially, the offer was not passed onto the 2nd place team M80, and extended back to G2, who’s initial partnership hopes were dashed due to the actions of their then CEO.

VCT EMEA

VCT EMEA’s ascending team was not an expected result. Another staple of the French scene, Gentle Mates finished 2nd in their group, and were knocked into Lower Semis by Acend. After a game 3 win to prevent elimination vs SAW, Gentle Mates would lock in. Bringing back to back 3-0s to Ascend to join the other 10 EMEA VCT 2024 Teams battling in Berlin.

VCT Pacific

VCT Pacific returns to Seoul. The defending region all VCT 2024 teams to take down. The Ascension team Bleed were standouts throughout the tournament. Star player juicy unfortunately is too young, and departed team to do his mandatory military service, to avoid having the same issue as fellow Singaporean superstar Jinggg (PRX). Ex Optic MVP yay returns to tier 1 under the Bleed banner.

VCT China

VCT China is fresh to the scene. The game is still new officially in the region, with Shanghai Masters 2024 coinciding with the 1 year anniversary of its release. The region has some additional complications for foreign roster slot rules. Unlike other regions, the number of imports is limited to 1 instead of 2. Players from Hong Kong, Taiwan and other non Chinese mainland territories must declare their intended main region. They can choose Pacific, and take up an import slot for VCT China teams. Or declare China as their main region, being able to play natively, but would become an import slot for Pacific and all other regions. This declaration had to be made before rosters lock for 2024.

Many of the Ascending VCT 2024 Teams came through upsets

Big names in Chinese Valorant didn’t make the cut for Partnerships, having to scrap it out in a hotly contested Chinese Ascension. Attacking Soul Esports and Rare Atom often played second fiddle to EDG in pre-partnership tournaments. Household CS2 name Ninjas In Pajamas would also be amongst the last 8 teams in Ascension.
Continuing the trend of upsets, the last team to ascend, Dragon Ranger Gaming (DRG) took down favorites Rare Atom in finals. The teams expected to come out on top struggled in finals when the chips were down, and the team with everything to lose, often did.

G2 Qualified after Americas favorites M80 lost to the Guard
Gentle Mates beat 1st seeds of both groups Acend and Apeks back to back 3-0 to qualify.
Bleed qualified comfortably as Top tied top seed after NAOS Esports lost early in Semifinals.
