G2 Valyn: “Most annoying game of VALORANT I have ever played in my life “
G2 Esports moved to 1-0 in the Swiss Stage at VCT Masters Shanghai. It was a thrilling back-and-forth series outside of game 2, which G2’s Valyn described as the “most annoying” game of his career. Following the series, Valyn and the rest of G2 sat down with the media for a post-series scrum.

North America is on the board at VCT Shanghai after a 2-1 victory over the Pacifics T1. Outside of game two, the series was competitive, with both sides poised to take a 1-0 record in the Swiss Stage. Unfortunately, there could only be one winner: G2 Esports.
The Americas squad took the sting out of T1 on Breeze, partially due to the impressive performance of Leaf, who racked up 28 kills on Cypher. G2, however, forgot this was a best of three as T1 stormed through Icebox.
G2 Valyn: “The game was mechanical diff, nothing is working for us.”
On a map that G2 had a 5-2 record on coming out of VCT Americas, the second seed was held to just one round as T1 obliterated their way through the North American squad to send the series to a third map swiftly.
“That (Icebox game) was the most annoying game of VALORANT I have ever played in my life” said G2’s Valyn, stunned at how T1 could flawlessly maneuver throughout the map and find their shots.

Every bullet turned into a kill, or that is at least how Valyn described it.
“It felt like, from my end, they were hitting every shot. I only had one kill in the defensive half [laughs].”
Sometimes, you have to hold your hands up and say fair play.
That game did not need to destroy G2’s mental state. Icebox can turn into a one-sided map very quickly, and you simply have to “go next.” This was echoed by Valyn, who very quickly was able to reset and prepare his team for the third and final map.
“The game was mechanical diff, plus, nothing is working for us. And I think it was kind of easy to brush off that loss and go into map three.”
G2 was able to pull themselves together and close out a thrilling third map, which ended up going to overtime. Despite being on defensive agents, Leaf was the star of the show for G2. The last time we saw him at a Masters event, he dominated at Champions. He has picked up right where he left off, with 59 kills to his name – the highest in the lobby.
