Here’s what happens at a Global Esports VALORANT Viewparty in Mumbai

If there is one country whose gaming community isn’t given a lot of recognition, it’s India. The country with the highest population in the world has a budding esports and gaming community. At the same time, most of it is due to the boom of mobile games within the country. There is a portion of fans for games such as VALORANT as well, though.

On June 23, Global Esports hosted a view party in Mumbai at Khar Social – a frequent spot for view parties by the only Indian organization in the VCT Partnership program. This was on occasion for their match against Bleed Esports during VCT Pacific Stage 2. In this article, I will share my experience and takeaways from the event.

Since the launch of the VALORANT partnership leagues, Global Esports has hosted multiple events. The first took place during VCT Lock//In in 2023.

This season, Global Esports’ roster significantly changed. The organization has been trying to build momentum in the lead-up to VALORANT Champions. Going into the match, the stakes were as high as they got. Lose the game, and chances to qualify for the playoffs were reduced drastically. The event was hosted at a restaurant called Khar Social. Due to the venue’s location, fans could reach the event using various forms of local transport.

Once I reached the venue of the viewparty, we saw all the decor related to VALORANT and Global Esports, with flags in red and blue denoting the colors of Global Esports. After being greeted by the host and making our way into the venue, it was pandemonium. Many fans had come to this event.

Fans from around the country traveled to watch the VCT Pacific match with other VALORANT fans. To all the fans, Global Esports provided beverages on the house. Even during the matches, they provided food boxes to their fans as the match was during lunchtime. A majority of the fans at the venue were college-going students. One point to note was that there were also parents who came to accompany their children.

Multiple employees from Global Esports were present at the event. Each time we caught a glimpse of them, they were either catalysts for the crowd to cheer or to have discussions with their fans. Many fans during this event were in glee due to the excellent performance of Global Esports. Many shared with us that they are trying to learn skills that would help them get a job within the Esports Industry. The passion of the VALORANT fans to know about the game and the industry was in full effect.

Interestingly, Acer and Intel also set up a gaming booth for fans. We must note that Intel is one of the major sponsors for Global Esports. During the view party, fans could complete various challenges within VALORANT on some of Acer’s latest laptops.

During the first map, the crowd was electric as GE started on a solid foot against Bleed Esports. As Global Esports won the series, the fans were on their feet and celebrating the moment. During the excitement, I got the chance to catch up with Umesh “Kripz” Kripalani, a talent at Global Esports.

“The atmosphere at this event is electric,” Kripz remarked. “It was a much-needed sigh of relief for the entire community. While the team’s performances haven’t been ideal, this win will help us build momentum for the next game.”

VALORANT is still in the growth stage in India because the game is the first major FPS title with an Esports ecosystem within the region. The passion that can be seen from the fans of Global Esports is quite similar to that of football/soccer screening events. They must win their next two matches during the VCT Pacific Stage 2 to secure a spot in the playoffs. If they accomplish this, it will look like the next view party will be a full house.

This year, Global Esports has put a valiant effort into reaching as many fans as they can around the country. They have gone to different cities around the nation just to host view parties. The main goal is to increase the exposure of the game and the regional communities within the country, which have a population of over a billion people.
