Riot could give an update on VALORANT Mobile and console this year

VALORANT is currently only available to play on PCs, but that hasn’t stopped the game from amassing millions of players worldwide. However, Riot has been public about its intentions to bring the FPS title to other platforms, particularly mobile devices. Now, in a press conference at the VCT Masters Madrid, Riot gave an update on when players can hear more about VALORANT on mobile and other platforms.

VALORANT Mobile was announced way back in 2021. Nearly three years later, players haven’t gotten any significant updates about the game’s development yet. There have been some leaks from ongoing playtests for the game, though, which look good and leave fans hopeful about an impending release.

Building an entire PC game separately for mobile devices from the ground-up, which is what Riot is doing, is no easy task. However, the lack of communication on its developmental progress has left players anxious.

Riot may give an update this year for VALORANT Mobile and other platforms

During the VCT Masters Madrid, Riot’s studio head for VALORANT, Anna Donlon, responded to a query about VALORANT Mobile. She said that the company doesn’t have any significant updates and that the game was still under development.

“Development continues on VALORANT Mobile. I have no significant update today, but we’re still working through that game and its gameplay,” Donlon added. “So hopefully, we can give some updates, maybe even later this year.”

Thus, based on the statement, it doesn’t seem like the game is anywhere close to a wider release. Donlon didn’t confirm either that an update on the developmental status would be given in 2024.

When asked about consoles, Donlon seemed more optimistic about an update on that for players this year, though.

“I think we’ve been pretty open about the fact that we’ve been exploring other platforms and seeing if we could actually bring the great experience of the game into different platforms, given different controls and stuff like that. I am really hopeful that we’ll be able to give some really solid updates sometime this year.”

It’s to be noted that Riot hasn’t officially confirmed that VALORANT is coming to consoles. However, players have speculated that is the case based on Riot’s job updates for console developers. Even in the press conference, the company hasn’t stated which consoles they are looking to bring the game into. Players will have to wait around to find out.
