Many were excited to see Gen G vs Team Heretics. The last time these two teams faced off was during the grand Finale of the VCT Masters Shanghai. Gen G became the first VCT Pacific team to win an international tournament during that match.

Going into this match, no team was the favorite to win. Game one was played on the map of Abyss. Gen G used a unique team composition of Astra, Sova, and Yoru. Gen G went on to win game 1 with a score of 13-11 during day 5 of VALORANT Champions.

The main point to note from this map was the usage of abilities in the post-plant. With agents like Astra and Sova, Gen G successfully delayed several chances for Team Heretics to diffuse the spike. During the last round, using the Cosmic Divide, Gen G could block Team Heretics’ spam to secure the map win.

During game two, Gen G won the map similarly to the first one. They were up 10-5, but then Team Heretics pulled an incredible comeback on the attack, taking the score to 13-11. A stat to note is that in this game, t3xture secured eight first kills.

Game 3 was played on the Map of Bind. Due to their distinct team composition of Gekko and Yoru, Team Heretics had full control of this game. It was very easy for them to get map control using Gekko’s or Yoru’s ultimate. This worked in their favor, as they completed the reverse sweep and qualified for the playoffs phase. Team Heretics became the second team to defeat Gen G this year during an international tournament.

Fnatic and DRX are two of the legacy teams within VALORANT Esports. They faced off against each other during VALORANT Champions 2022 and 2023. In their 2022 encounter, DRX came out on top, and in 2024, Fnatic won the game.

The significant difference this time is that the team of DRX only has Yu “BuZZ” Byung-chul and Kim “MaKo” Myeong-gwan from their previous face-off. Game 1 was played on the map of Abyss, which was the map pick of DRX. The team started this map strong, winning five rounds in a row. Similar to the Gen G match-up, the post-plant abilities differentiated the two teams. DRX used Kay/0 and Sova to perfection, ensuring Fnatic couldn’t defuse the spike easily. DRX won their map pick with a score of 13-11

Game 2 was played on the map of Lotus, and it was a one-sided matchup during day 5 of VALORANT Champions. DRX started strong by taking the lead in the first map with a score of 7-5. BuZz on Raze secured an incredible Ace during the second half during round 17. We usually see Cho “Flashback” Min-hyuk use Chamber in the map of Lotus, but this time, he was in Viper. Proving that he is one of the best flex players in VCT. BuZz ended the game with eight first-bloods and a kill-to-death difference of +10.

With this, Team Heretics and DRX become the first two teams to qualify for the VALORANT Champions 2024 Playoffs.
