Valorant Masters Santiago Swiss Draw Redone As Boss Admits “Mistaken” Live Draw
Valorant Masters Santiago had to re-draw the second round of Swiss Stage matchups following a mistake in the initial draw, with Leo Faria, Global Head of Valorant Esports, speaking on the situation on Sunday, March 1.
On Sunday, after the matches culminated and the draw pitted the 1-0 and 0-1 teams against each other, Faria admitted that something went wrong during the live broadcast and that a re-draw would be required for the next round of matches at Valorant Masters Santiago.
What Went Wrong in the Original Draw?
“We made a mistake on today’s draw on stage during the live broadcast,” he explained. “The second team was placed in the wrong position, which cascaded throughout the rest of the draw, leading to all other teams being placed incorrectly.
“This is unfortunate since over three hours have gone past and teams have wasted precious prep time. But we have to do what’s right, so we’re getting coaches together at the hotel and will redo the draw.”
Re-Draw Shared Hours Later
Not wanting to waste too much time, Faria and the operations team did a re-draw in the hotel in Santiago to get the correct bracket, and it changed things fairly significantly.
Originally, in the 1-0 matches, Paper Rex and Gentle Mates were due to face off, while NRG were penciled in to take on Team Liquid following their shock win over T1.
Now, Paper Rex will face NRG, while Team Liquid will be hoping to continue their momentum against Gentle Mates.
Below that, in the 0-1 round, EDward Gaming were scheduled to meet with G2 Esports, while XLG Esports vs T1 was the final matchup.
Following the re-draw, EDward Gaming will face T1 and G2 will hope to go 1-1 with victory over XLG.
The VCT team was commended for quickly turning around the re-draw and for admitting to their mistake rather than simply pretending it never happened or forcing the show to go on regardless.
That said, the first round of matchups didn’t do much for our Valorant Masters Santiago pick’ems, with T1’s unexpected loss to Team Liquid really shaking things up.
