A replay system in video games is an in-built feature that allows gamers to replay certain rounds in a game. In various games, it allows players the freedom to obtain a 360-degree view of an in-game situation. In VALORANT, many fans and players have been asking for this feature as it will help them during VOD reviews.
Marcus Reid, the tech head for VALORANT at Riot Games, mentioned that the dev team has been working on a replay system for a while. Currently, the system is in the prototype build. In the developer’s update video, fans are provided with an exclusive look at the free roam cam view on the replay system. It was also implied that the replay system is currently nowhere close to finished.
He also stated the following this to state concerning the VALORANT replay system:
“Unreal gives us a lot for free on Replays, but we didn’t plan for these situations. There are a plethora of issues with maps, abilities, and weapons, as well as visual and audio effects, that we need to work on. Otherwise, defects show up when viewing moments out of the game and in a replay.”
Another example provided in the video was on the map of Asecent near mid. Marcus Reid showed the issues the teams face due to Brimstone’s smoke animations. In the video, the VALORANT development team didn’t give a timeline for when the replay system will be available in the game.
Since its launch, the video has garnered much positive feedback from the community. In the Dev Updates Video, VALORANT stated that there would be more communication concerning competitive map pools and agent updates following VALORANT Champions 2024.
