VCT Americas Stage One began on March 22. Since then, all the teams within the league have played in the group stage of the event. The top four teams in each group qualify for the playoffs phase. Teams that finish in the top three spots of VCT Americas Stage One secure their spot in the upcoming VCT Masters Toronto.

G2 Esport had one of the best runs of form during this event, having lost no matches during the group stages. Going into the playoffs, they looked at being the favourites to qualify for VCT Masters Toronto. But the path wasn’t as easy as they would have hoped. During the Upper Bracket Semifinals, they lost to Sentinels, pushing them into the lower bracket. If they wished to qualify for their second international tournament of the year, they needed to win the next two matches.

That is precisely what they did by defeating 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses to qualify for the lower bracket final. They dominated the Aspas-led MIBR 3-1 and qualified for the grand finals. Only to face off against the team that knocked them down, the Sentinels. Sentinels have been on top form during the playoffs, just losing a single map in 3 matches. Now they face off against G2 esports in a best-of-5 series.

It must be noted that both teams, Sentinels and G2 Esports, have qualified for VCT Masters Toronto. Both teams will be playing in the grand finals for the championship points. This is crucial for G2 Esports, as if they don’t qualify for VALORANT Champions 2025, they can lose their spot in VCT Americas due to the new VCT Ascension rules.

In official VCT tournaments, G2 Esports and Setinels have played five matches against each other since 2024. G2 Esports has won four of these matches, one of which was the VCT Americas Kickoff Grand Finals. This was the last time these two teams played in a best-of-5 series. The match went to map 5, with no team trying to give away the lead. The upcoming grand final has the potential for the same.

If there are two players that one must watch, it’s trent from G2 Esports and zekken from Sentinels. During this tournament, trent has only played the agent Tejo on every map. The upcoming nerfs to Tejo will go live only after VCT Masters Toronto. He has become one of the best players for the agent. Below are some of his stats during the VCT Americas Playoffs stage:

  • ACS: 226.0
  • ADR: 153.3
  • Kill To Death Ratio: 1:37:1
  • Clutch Sucess%: 22%
  • Kills Per Round: 0.8

Zekken, on the other hand, has been lethal on both duelists and, when required, even as Omen. During this tournament, it does feel his form has returned to the top. He leads the playoffs with the player with the highest number of first kills per round, which is 0.22.

If we had to give our predictions, it does feel like G2 Esports still has the edge over Sentinels to win this series 3-1. The only way for Sentinels to win this grand finals is if all their players are on top form and do not get killed without being traded. I state this because while most of the Sentinels’ players had a negative KDA, they had a positive difference between the number of first kills and first deaths.
