There are quite a few interesting facts about the two teams in the grand finals. One is that they both qualified for both VCT Masters tournaments this season. Secondly, they both made it to their region’s respective league VCT Stage One’s grand finals and lost. The final coincidence is that both made it to the playoffs through the Swiss Stage of the VCT Masters Shanghai.

In my previous article, we talked about Gen G, the first team to qualify for the Grand Finals. The South Korean team has proven why they are one of the best teams in the world this season. Having won the VCT Pacific Kickoff and finished second during VCT Pacific Stage One. Their major accomplishment this season was finishing second during the VCT Masters Madrid.

The Golden Tigers have picked themselves up and gone on an undefeated run during the VCT Masters Shanghai, defeating the likes of Fnatic, 100Thieves, and G2 Esports during their run in the tournament.

If there is one team that has proven why they have been the ones to watch in this event, it is Team Heretics. At the start of the tournament, they announced that their player Miniboo wouldn’t be taking part in the event due to his exams and that paTiTek would step in as a substitute.

During the tournament, Team Heretics has been like the grim reaper of the game. They eliminated the VCT CN teams in FunPlus Phoneix and Dragon Ranger Gaming in the Swiss stage. They defeated the only remaining VCT CN team in EDward Gaming during the playoff rounds. After a second loss to G2 Esports in the tournament, Team Heretics defeated the likes of FUT Esports and 100Theives, finally facing off against G2 Esports in the Lower Bracket Finals.

There is no obvious favorite for the upcoming VCT Masters Shanghai Grand Finals. Gen G has been one of the solid favorites in the tournament, and they have proven why as well. On the other hand, Team Heretics have proven they are one of the teams to worry about.

As Gen G qualified from the upper bracket finals, they will have a choice on the maps they wish to ban. This could play in Gen G’s favor. If the game goes to map 5, then it is one for Gen G to win, as they have been able to accomplish multiple reverse sweeps in this tournament. For Team Heretics to win, they will have to finish the game in the first three maps.

VCT Masters Shanghai Grand Final is looking to be one of the tournament’s best games. This will be the first time these two teams face off against each other. At the end of the Grand Finals, either Gen G will secure the first international trophy for VCT Pacific, or Team Heretic will write their name in the history books of VALORANT Esports.
