If there is one team that has been consistent this year in any of the four VCT Leagues, it’s Gen G. This South Korean team has proven why they are one of the best teams in the world. In my predictions for this tournament, I had placed them as the third favorite team to win. This was because, unlike Paper Rex and Fnatic, the team had to qualify from the Swiss stage.
During the playoffs, they faced off against Fnatic and defeated them with scores of 13-10, 10-13, and 13-11 during the B03 series. In their second match, they faced off against 100 Thieves and won comfortably with a score of 13-10 on Icebox and Ascent, respectively. In the upper bracket finals, they faced off against another VCT Americas team in G2 Esports.

During this match, Gen G won with a scoreline of 13-8 and 13-10 on Lotus and Ascent, respectively. The players who stole the show were t3xture and Meteor from Gen G. Meteor who had a KDA of 42/24/7, whereas t3xture had a KDA of 48/28/7 during the two maps. One central point to note is that t3xture during the two maps had a first death to first kills ratio of 12:2.
Gen G has gone undefeated in this event until now during the VCT Masters Shanghai. One point to note is that they were also undefeated during the VCT Masters Madrid until the grand finals. In this match-up, they lost to Sentinels in a close series. Will history repeat itself this time, or can Gen G finally break the curse and secure the first international trophy for a VCT Pacific Team? We will find out soon enough.
