WoW Classic: Season of Mastery Season 2 Leaks & Updates
World of Warcraft Classic holds a special place in many WoW players’ hearts. Despite Dragonflight being an overwhelming success, many find themselves yearning for the green hills of Hillsbrad and the warm plains of the Barrens, looking to experience that fresh new adventure once again.
Blizzard have stated they’ll be releasing regular seasonal servers for World of Warcraft classic, but they’re keeping their cards close to their chests. We still don’t have any concrete date for WoW Season of Mastery 2, but there’s a sense in the air that we could be getting one pretty soon.
WoW Season of Mastery 1 Recap
WoW Classic Season of Mastery was not as huge as one would have hoped for. The population was on the low side, at least compared to the original Classic launch from 2019, but there were more than enough players to make the game feel alive. And while a lot of the SoM changes were well-received by the majority of the playerbase, some of them felt tedious and killed certain aspects of the game, like the removal of world buffs.

To make matters worse, the servers launched right around time when Burning Crusade was at its high point and many players were unwilling to split their attention on two fronts. It felt a bit rushed.
With that being said, WoW Classic Season of Mastery was seen as a success by the players and Blizzard themselves. Many of the changes left an impact and breathed new life into the old world of Azeroth.
When will Season of Mastery 2 Launch?
The WoW Classic seasonal servers officially shut down on February 14th, 2023. The players migrated their characters and moved on, hoping that Blizzard would soon announce new ones. Months passed by and nothing happened, so what’s the deal?
Blizzard are busy with Dragonflight and Wrath of the Lich King Classic servers are doing fairly well, so they probably didn’t want to rush things again. However, there’s a growing suspicion that we might get a new Season of Mastery 2 announcement pretty soon. Possibly around mid to late summer?
WoW Classic Era servers spiking in popularity
In case you didn’t notice, the WoW Classic Era servers have been flourishing lately. It all began with the resurgence of the WoW Hardcore challenge and quickly transferred to the rest of Classic Era servers. There’s thousands upon thousands who have returned to the old and abandoned servers they once played on. Today, those very servers are packed full and the same best World of Warcraft raids are being cleared each day.
Blizzard have obviously caught on and are paying close attention to this renewed interest in WoW Classic, which might influence their decision to launch WoW Classic SoM 2 soon.
What new things can we hope for?
There might be a lot of suggested changes to WoW Classic on the table, but something that a lot of people would like to see is that the classes get a bit more spice when it comes to their PvE rotations.
While there might be some people who enjoy pressing one button as their rotation, Classic would bring a much bigger player base if all classes had rotations that are similar to what we have in WotLK Classic.
We also hope Blizzard will address some of the issues with PvP honor farming and make grinding WoW ranks less of a chore. The first SoM season was a good first draft, they just need to build upon that. Ultimately, the decision rests in Blizzard’s hands and we’ll just have to wait to see what surprises they’ll have in store for us with Season of Mastery 2.
