The retail version of World of Warcraft has seen plenty of changes over the years. The game is not what it was when it originally launched in 2004, and many of its core tenets are drastically different today.

Before listing some of the best PvP servers in WoW Dragonflight, it’s important to note that PvP in retail is cross-faction nowadays. The lines between the Alliance and the Horde have been blurred, and you can pretty much queue together for any type of PvP activity today. Guilds and PvP communities are also cross-faction, so that makes PvP servers on retail a bit less relevant than PvP on the Classic version of the game.
That being said, the retail WoW esports scene is bigger than it ever was, with Blizzard funding and the player interest being at an all-time high.

Wrath of the Lich Classic servers are an entirely different story from retail. This is where the old WoW rules are still intact and where players still engage in ruthless world PvP on a daily basis. This is the server to be if you’re a Horde player. It’s almost entirely composed of Horde players and there’s barely any Alliance players left around. This effectively kills any hope of doing world PvP in the open zones, but there’s a far greater chance you’ll meet people to team up for Arena and Battleground premades.
It is also probably the strongest WotlK Classic realm when it comes to raiding, trading or just general gold making. It also has the biggest WoW player count in Europe.
This server is the biggest US mega server, much like Gehennas for the EU. The only difference is that Benediction is Alliance dominated and there’s barely any Horde to be found.
The best WoW players from the US play on this realm since there’s far more opportunities to get into guilds or find groups for dungeons. Same goes for PvP. The huge population is a plus, but you should also keep in mind that there’s more competition. If you wish to succeed, you’ll have to stand out from the crowd.
Grobbulus is a well-balanced server in terms of Horde and Alliance population. There’s slightly less Alliance, but the number is negligible.
This is our top pick for anyone looking to experience some real open world PvP action as you won’t be able to find it on either Gehennas or Benediction.

WoW Dragonflight is much more forgiving and your server choice won’t really influence your PvP activities much. More than anything, pick a server that has a better economy so you’re never strapped for cash.
The WotlK Classic servers are a different story. You really want to do your research and figure out which server would fit you the best. Obviously, you should take into account which faction you’d like to play, but also see what the server culture is and whether you’ll enjoy it in the long run.
Ultimately, even if you regret your choice, you can always purchase a character transfer from the Blizzard shop and hop onto another server pretty quickly. But just to be sure, it’s best to think things through and make your best judgment call.
