Everyone who is a martial arts fan probably immediately got attracted to playing the Monk in World of Warcraft. While this class was introduced in Mists of Pandaria expansion, and as the Pandaren are the ones who are portrayed to be the best monks around, are they really? Keep reading to find out.
Monks are capable of all specializing in the roles that the game offers: DPS, tank, and healer. This is quite fitting, as the class in lore strives to hold the balance in all things. Considering that the class is based on martial ass, there should be no surprise that it is one of the most mobile classes in the game, and even as healers, they will be going around the battlefield and exposing the enemy’s weakness like a fantasy kung-fu master.

While Pandaren is the main race that is pictured as the monk class in WoW, almost all races are capable of becoming a monk, which makes it a bit difficult to select the best one, as each playable WoW race brings something interesting to the table. We are going to cover the best races for monk WoW has to offer for all three specs and for both PvE and PvP.
When it comes to PvE, the diversity is definitely there, as each spec has some races that are somewhat favored. In some cases, the differences are quite minor, but if you want that competitive edge without caring how your character looks, you might as well pick it.
The DPS spec has some interesting choices for both Alliance and Horde, but the difference in WoW DPS tier lists is minor and quite situational because Monk as a class already has powerful tools that are better than any racial out there, especially mobility, which is what classes usually lack.
For Alliance, the best option might come as a surprise to those who are looking from the perspective of lore, as Mechagnomes are the best Windwalker Monks in the game. Logically, this would make sense, as they are literally half-machines, which is obviously better than any flesh-based race for kung-fu. Jokes aside, the reason why Mechagnomes are the best is because of Combat Analysis which boosts the primary stat the longer you are in combat, and Emergency Failsafe can instantly recover health when you find yourself in a sticky situation.
Orcs are the best choice for quite a lot of classes out there, especially non-casters, as Blood Fury is a quick boost to their damage. There’s also some value from Orcs’ Command passive that strengthens the monk’s clones and the pets.
When it comes to healing, having a high mana pool is essential, which is why races that can boost those attributes are the ones who tend to prevail over others for monks.

For Alliance, it is kind of a tie between Humans and Gnomes, as both races contribute to the Mana pool in some way. Humans have The Human Spirit, and Gnomes have Expansive Mind for the 5% mana bonus as well as Nimble Fingers, which is a nice haste bonus.
Blood Elves are quite a fitting choice for Mistweaver monks, as they are the mana race of the game. With Arcane Torrent, you can not only strip buffs off nearby enemies but also gain 3% mana when you use it. There is also a nice 1% crit chance which can come in handy.

Brewmasters are all about being beefy and can take a punch, and the races that are the best option for each race are indeed quite fitting.
For Alliance, there is no better monk than a big Kul Tiran, which helps them regenerate 2% of damage taken over four seconds, and they also gain 1% versatility. Haymaker racial also helps provide additional cc, which is always welcome.
For Horde, it is also the big beefy guys who are the best race for Brewmaster Monks, and it is Highmountain Tauren. Just like Kul Tirans, they have 1% bonus versatility, and they come with Rugged Tenacity that reduces damage from all sources based on their stamina. There is also Bull Rush, which is again a form of cc that is nice to have.

Ok, for this one, there should really be no surprise, as there are two common races that are the easiest choice when it comes to PvP. No matter which spec you plan to play in, PvP with Monk, Humans, and Orcs are top tier, we know, shocking. The reason behind it is the ability to reduce cc and the offensive bonuses that they have.
Humans have The Human Spirit, which is great once you are geared, and having a free stun cleanser with Will to Survive is just amazing. Orcs, on the other hand, have Blood Fury, and they have a flat 20% reduction to all stuns with the Hardiness passive. There is once again that 1% bonus damage for Windwalkers that we talked about in the PvE section for orcs.
While these are the top races unless you are planning to play WoW to be the best of the best, the choices are not that important, as at the end of the day, the differences are not that huge, and sometimes having a character which looks nice to you will make the game more enjoyable than slightly higher numbers.
