WoW Classic Warlock Leveling Guide – Command a Demon Army

Warlocks are one of the most unique World of Warcraft classes, a hybrid between a caster and a pet class. They have a wide arsenal of spells to take down their foes, along with plenty of curses and debilitating effects. What makes Warlocks truly a powerhouse when it comes to leveling is the sheer number of pets they can control.

Warlocks can summon demons from the Twisting Nether to serve them indefinitely. From a lowly Imp that shoots Fireballs to a hulking Voidwalker behemoth, Warlocks command all manner of pets. As such, they are one of the best and easiest classes to level in WoW Classic.

Using the Right Build to Level

When it comes to leveling in WoW Classic, Warlocks have some options. They can either choose the safe route and level with a Voidwalker pet who will serve as a personal tank. In this case, Warlocks usually choose to go down the Demonology talent route as it offers the best pet enhancing talents, along with some great survivability choices.

Those looking for a slightly faster leveling pace will opt for Affliction, instead. Affliction is all about dealing damage-over-time spells and applying devastating curses to cripple your enemy. It plays similarly to Demonology, but instead of a Voidwalker, Affliction warlocks often use the Succubus or Felhunter pets.

Destruction is more of an end-game spec and not really used for leveling. However, certain players swear by Destruction as it is the best PvP spec warlocks have, so some choose to sacrifice some of that leveling efficiency for a stronger and more aggressive PvP presence in the open world. Destruction can oneshot unsuspecting players and cause havoc in battlegrounds, making warlocks one of the deadliest WoW PvP classes.

Affliction “Drain Tank” Build

The “Drain Tank” build revolves around using the warlock ability Drain Life as the main offensive ability of the build. When properly specced, this build can quickly turn warlocks into the fastest and most efficient leveling spec in the game. Your playstyle with this spec will look something like this.

You apply your dots (Corruption, Syphon Life and Agony) and proceed to Drain Life on repeat. Your pet, a Succubus or an Imp in most cases, will serve as your mana battery. They will not use spells but just auto attack, because you want to use Dark Pact to syphon all that mana from your pet back to you.

It sounds a bit wonky, but trust us, this spec can chain pull monsters with no issues whatsoever. Dark Pact and Life Tap will ensure you’re always full on mana, while Drain Life will always keep you at full HP. When you think about it, this spec is actually kind of broken for leveling.

You can use this spec in WoW Classic Hardcore to beat your competition while leveling, without taking much risk at all. It’s safe, reliable and, most of all, FUN!

Warlock Leveling Tips

Warlocks have an easy time leveling for all the aforementioned reasons, but when it comes to truly maximizing your leveling efficiency, they have a lot more up their sleeves.

Healthstones

Healthstones are basically your second Healing Potion. You can craft them for free and then use them whenever you’re in a difficult situation. Always have one crafted and ready.

Fear

Fear is one of the most broken crowd control abilities in WoW Classic. It causes the target to run around aimlessly for up to 20 seconds, essentially taking them out of the battle for the duration.

Fear can be spammed indefinitely and you can even damage the target while it’s feared, although there’s a good chance the Fear effect will break when taking damage.

This ability single-handedly makes warlocks one of the best classes for soloing elites and other tough quests. You can dot the target and fear them on repeat, watching their HP bar slowly melt away. Top WoW PvP players who play warlocks will use this spell against you all the time, so watch out for it.

If you’re having trouble surviving content in the game, just spec deep into Demonology and pick up the Soul Link talent. It basically shaves off 30% of any damage taken and transfers it to your pet. Think of it as a permanent 30% damage reduction buff, as long as your pet is around you. This talent makes warlocks into real tanks.
