Titans in World of Warcraft – Quick Lore Overview

In a world as big as Azeroth, along with other worlds that the World of Warcraft universe has to offer, there is an ancient race that is responsible for pretty much everything related to the lore of the game. That race, is Titans. They are the ones who hold the key to the planet’s creation and the forces that shape its destiny, which is why they are considered the god-like beings of the universe.

Titans are deeply involved in the lore of WoW. Their power level is one of the highest that the universe has to offer. While we cannot do justice to the complete lore of the Titans World of Warcraft, we will give you a quick overview of everything you should know about them, such as their origins, their significance in the universe, and more.

Titans World of Warcraft – The Origins

Titans, who are also known as the Pantheon, are a WoW race of immortal beings who have transcended time and space. According to Azeroth’s creation myth, the universe was born from the primordial clash between the cosmic forces of Light and Void. Out of this clash, Titans were created.

Titans seek to bring order to the chaotic cosmos. Among them are Aman’Thul, Eonar, Norgannon, Khaz’goroth, Golgannet, Aggramar. The last is infamous in WoW, Sargeras.

Titans World of Warcraft – The Purpose

The space in WoW, which is known as the nether, or the Great Dark Beyond, has countless worlds that are scattered all around. Titans seek to keep order in this Great Dark Beyond. To do this, they journey from one planet to another. They shape and nurture it until it reaches a state of harmony. That is why in Azeroth, you will find quite a lot of colossal structures that are known as Titan-forged structures. They are powerful magical safeguards that are designed to protect the planet from destruction as well as from corruption.

Titan-forged constructs are very important when it comes to the cosmic mission. These constructs are crafted from stone and metal, and they are the loyal guardians that maintain order on Azeroth. Titan-forged guardians on Azeroth are the Earthen, created out of stone, and Mechagnomes, which are metal gnomes. There are also Vrykul, which are gigantic warriors who established their civilization in the northern part of Azeroth, and they are also the origins of Humans in the lore.

Curse of the Old Gods

Titans did quite a good job at bringing harmony to Azeroth, but good things do not last forever, especially in WoW. While the Light created Titans to keep order in the universe, the Void also created some creatures during the clash, and those are the Old Gods, who are there to corrupt everything and make everything Void.

Old Gods are malevolent entities of chaos and corruption. They can easily spread their vile influence across the world that they inhabit. In order to fend off Old Gods from Azeroth, Titans left powerful beings known as Keepers.

The War Of The Titans

Despite all the efforts that Titans put into protecting Azeroth from the Old Gods, their corruption persisted. The Black Empire, an empire founded by the Old Gods, spread through the planet and could challenge the Titans’ creations. The War raged on. Since the destruction of Old Gods would damage the planet, they were imprisoned by the Titans’ forces within the planet.

That seemed like a good idea at the time. But Old Gods still managed to spread their sinister influence to the denizens of Azeroth.

The Fall Of The Keepers

As time passed by, Keepers who were in charge of protecting Azeroth and taking care of the imprisoned Old Gods eventually succumbed to their corruption. One by one, they fell into madness and turned on each other. Loken, the Prime Designate, betrayed his fellow Keepers, which is where the in-game Ulduar Raid and related Dungeons come into play.

The Ulduar Raid And The End Of The War

Ulduar is known to be one of the best raids in WoW. Not only from the perspective of gameplay and gear that it drops, but also lore. Players venture into the heart of Ulduar, the ancient Titan city, and they confront the corrupted Keepers one by one. Each confrontation makes the keepers come to their senses. It’s here where the Old God, Yogg-Saron, the one that corrupted the Keepers, is defeated, at least for now.

Sargeras, The Destroyer Of Worlds

One Titan that plays an incredibly significant role in the lore of World of Warcraft is none other than Sargeras, the Dark Titan. As we mentioned earlier, he was one of the members of the Pantheon. His goal is to protect the universe and keep it in balance and harmony. He is by far the most powerful Titan.

However, like the Keepers that Titans have created, Sargeras also fell into corruption against the Void, its demons, and the Old Gods that he has been fighting for a long time. While the Keepers that we mentioned earlier raged war against each other, Sargeras, as a more powerful entity, also had bigger goals in his corrupted form, and that was to destroy everything living in the universe.

He then created the Burning Legion. This is one of the most important factions when it comes to lore in World of Warcraft. It’s enemy that pretty much all players are familiar with. For years, Sargeras and the Burning Legion seemed like a force that was unbeatable. But in the Legion expansion, players finally managed to imprison Sargeras by freeing the other members of the Pantheon and by stopping the Burning Legion.

Of course, when it comes to lore in WoW enemies rarely stay down. Almost everything hasthe potential to come back, like the demons of the Burning Legion (given at a much slower rate due to them losing their regenerative powers that Argus was giving them). We would not be surprised if they made a return in the near future, maybe sooner than we expect.
