Ubisoft Confirms XDefiant Has Been Delayed Yet Again – But Another Test is Coming
In a recent post on social media, Ubisoft confirmed that XDefiant has been delayed yet again. The in-development shooter, which was supposed to be released last summer, has suffered from several issues that have postponed the game’s launch on several occasions. In recent reports, it was suggested that internally, XDefiant’s development cycle has been impacted by leadership issues and a lack of direction – but a different picture was painted in today’s social post.
It was said that tests are scheduled to occur during a twelve-hour window across all platforms. This is to ‘stress (their) servers and get critical data to prepare (them) for launch.’ In what was a mostly positive message, nothing was mentioned about recent rumours and claims that have surfaced that have somewhat marred the project’s traction thus far.
Another Day, Another Delay
XDefiant went into a beta phase last summer and more than one million gamers widely appreciated it. It then entered development hell, going through a series of issues ranging from rejection from Xbox and PlayStation to troubling problems with the game’s core netcode. There have been various testing phases since, but ultimately, Ubisoft is yet to lock in a solid release window, and each rumoured date has come and gone with no concrete updates.
In the latest post on social media, the team wrote:
‘First and foremost, thank you for your continued support for XDefiant. We are proud to have such a passionate community, and we than you for your participation in our test phases, including our Insider Sessions.
This game has always been community-first, with player feedback as a top priority. While we hoped to go live by the end of March, there are still some improvements that we need to test before that.
We’re finishing preparations for a 12-hour Server Test Session that will be worldwide on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The goal of this test is to stress our servers and get critical data to prepare us for launch. This is where we need your help to test our servers as much as possible! As always, feedback on your experience is important to us.
After this short test, we expect to be able to lock in a launch date and start sharing more about the exciting content XDefiant has to offer in the future.
Thank you again for standing by us. We will be back once we are ready to share more news.’
XDefiant was one a highly anticipated shooter boasting some innovative and unique elements, but the hype has almost well and truly fizzled out by this point. Players are impatient and there are many more things to play – including some top competitors to XDefiant like Modern Warfare 3 and The Finals.
