Apex Legends Makes Major Map Pool Change for ALGS Champs & Pros Aren’t Happy

Apex Legends developer Respawn announced tweaks to the map pool at the ALGS Championship in January 2026, and several pros have questioned the decision, which goes against their wishes, despite apparently having voted on the topic.

The annual ALGS Championship is once again headed to Sapporo, Japan, after a successful event in the same location in 2025.

Olympus Added to ALGS Champs Map Pool

On November 23, 2025, the Apex Legends esports team announced the new map pool for ALGS Champs, which included one major change: Olympus was added to replace Broken Moon.

“The recent updates to Olympus have put the map in a much stronger place competitively—reducing open space, improving flow, and creating healthier rotations for our teams,” they explained. “After teams had time to play and provide feedback, it became clear that Olympus was the right fit for the Championship’s 4th map.”

Olympus will be in the rotation alongside World’s Edge, Storm Point, and E-District.

Pros & Coaches Not Impressed After Vote to Not Add Olympus

It didn’t take long for coaches and some of the best Apex players in the world to start questioning how this decision was made, as a majority of them voted against this.

Free Agent coach/analyst Jonathan “Wait I am Trash” Naftzger spoke about the decision, saying: “Having us vote in the pro league server before the Olympus changes were officially announced to then force us to play on Olympus when about 80%+ players did not want the map in the pool without a little more polish is insane work.”

Australian Team Falcons star Ben “Wxltzy” Walton and Mac “Albralelie” Beckwith shared similar GIFs in response to the original tweet, suggesting that they weren’t happy with the decision.

However, many non-pros have expressed their contentment with this decision, as the smaller map of Olympus is able to offer some thrilling moments that can ramp up the excitement. How it actually looks in practice when Champs rolls around remains to be seen, but the jury is definitely out for now on whether this was a good decision.
