EA and Respawn Partner for $3 million Apex Legends Esports Series
The newly founded Apex Legends Global Series is going to cost a total of $3 million – $1 million of that are going to be the prize pool for the main event alone! The entire series is going to be open to residents from more than 60 countries around the world – a truly global series!
The event will be a mix of both live and online events for PC players. A total of 12 events will be happening. According to Respawn Entertainment’s head of operations, Vince Zampella, Apex Legends has a future as an esport, and they are looking forward to the millions of players that will be competing in the arena.

Participation
In order to participate, players have to meet a minimum age requirement, the residency requirement and a minimum of PC specs. The first stage of competitions will be online, and it will see its winners moving forward to regional events. After a series of those, the regional champs will be competing in premier events before going on to the overall final. Prize pools will be rising throughout the competition series, with the first few major events boasting half a million USD each!
Like in similar esports, players will gather Apex Legends Global Series Points throughout the event series. They can earn these points both online and during live events, and the players with the most points will be the ones to advance to the four Apex Legends Global Series Majors.
Overall, 60 teams will be advancing to the final event, where they can compete for the $1 million prize pool as well as the Global Series World Champion title.
The Match Point format that will be used for this series will be functionally identical to the system that was used in the Preseason Invitational in September this year. In order to qualify, players and teams need to reach a certain point threshold. This can be done through match placement as well as accumulated kills.
In other words, hiding out and camping until the end won’t do the trick as players also have to get kills along with good final placements in matches. This is to make sure that fans will get to see action rather than just players avoiding each other on the map.
Joining in
If you want to participate in the global series, you will need to get ready pretty soon – you’ll be able to sign up for the first online event on January 11th. The event itself is happening on January 25th. The first Major after that is going to take place in March, on the weekend of the 13th to the 15th next year.
You can find a list of eligible countries here: https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/apex-legends/news/global-series-announcement
More details on the event series will be released early next year, in time for the next few events after the first major. If you want to watch rather than to participate, you can do so online of course – all events will be live-streamed on Twitch as well as other streaming sites. More details on that will also be released early next year, so stay tuned!
