Diablo 4 Battle Pass – Everything You Need to Know

Blizzard are jumping on the live service game bandwagon and changing things across all their popular IPs. WoW has the new Trading Post, Overwatch 2 has switched from loot boxes to a Battle Pass system, and Hearthstone has been selling packs pretty much since the game launched. The Diablo IP was next in line.

Diablo 4 is the first Diablo title to feature a seasonal Battle Pass. The Diablo 4 Battle Pass has pretty much all you’d expect from a Battle Pass these days – plenty of cosmetic rewards, a special premium currency, and tons of in-game rewards that make you look cool and speed up your progression.

If you’re looking for a guide with a Diablo 4 Battle Pass explained, you’re at the right place. We’ll show you what the Battle Pass is, the ways to level it, and all the rewards you can get your hands on.

Is Diablo 4 Battle Pass Free?

Diablo 4 Battle Pass has two tracks – one free, and the other paid. The first 27 tiers on the Free Track of the Battle Pass are completely free and offer some cool cosmetics and 20 Smoldering Ashes, while the remaining 63 tiers on the Premium track are locked behind a paywall. This is the way Battle Passes usually work in other games like Diablo 4, so no surprises here.

The Premium Track is obviously way more important and has better rewards. There are two ways to unlock the Premium Track of the Battle Pass. You can either purchase a Premium Battle Pass pack, which will unlock your Premium Track and also give you 1.000 Platinum, which is the Diablo 4 premium currency in the game. The second option is the Accelerated Battle Pass, which also unlocks the Premium Track but gives 2.800 Platinum and includes 20 tier skips, plus a unique emote.

The Premium Battle Pass will cost you $9.99, while the Accelerated Battle Pass will cost you $24.99. This is not really cheap, and when comparing Diablo 4 with Diablo: Immortal, Diablo 4’s Battle Pass is actually more expensive.

Here’s a full list of Premium Battle Pass and Accelerated Battle Pass rewards:

Premium Battle Pass

  • Unlock 63 premium tiers (cosmetics, emotes and more)
  • Coldiron Armor Set for each class
  • Warded Mustang Mount
  • Coldiron Barding Mount Armor

Accelerated Battle Pass

  • Unlock 63 premium tiers (cosmetics, emotes and more)
  • Coldiron Armor Set for each class
  • Warded Mustang Mount
  • Coldiron Barding Mount Armor
  • 20 Tier Skips
  • “On the Warpath” Emote

You can purchase the Premium Battle Pass and just grind out all the tiers at your own pace. If you find yourself missing a tier or two, you can buy individual tier skips for $1.99.

Season Journey & Season Blessings

Right now, Diablo 4 players are playing in the first season of Diablo 4 called Season of the Malignant. While playing through the campaign and progressing your character, you will be able to to track your progress through the Battle Pass Season Journey tab. This is like a personal roadmap where you can track and complete different objectives to earn Favor, which is used to advance your overall Battle Pass level.

Season Blessing is a separate tab within the Diablo 4 Battle Pass. We already mentioned how you can earn Favor by doing objectives in the Season Journey tab, and here is where you get to reap the big rewards by spending your hard-earned Smoldering Ash to get some really powerful buffs. These can include XP buffs on monster kills, increased gold rewards, elixir duration, obtaining more Malignant Hearts, and more.

So as you can see, Diablo 4 microtransactions will not only reward you with unique cosmetics, but can significantly impact your gameplay, too.

Grind or Skip the Grind?

Diablo 4 is all about progressing your character, and that includes the Battle Pass. You may opt to simply buy the Accelerated Battle Pass and just get it over with, which is completely fine as you’ll reap all the benefits immediately.

However, we found that working towards that next Battle Pass tier can cause a nice dopamine rush every time you meet your goal. For this reason, we find that the Premium Battle Pass is more than enough.

How Long Does it Take to Fully Unlock the Battle Pass?

According to the Diablo 4 developers, it’ll take you roughly 80 hours to fully unlock the Battle Pass. If you’re a completionist, you’ll be gunning for level 100 anyways. By the time you reach that final milestone, your Battle Pass will be completed. In other words – just play the game and you’ll get your Battle Pass done passively.
