Diablo 4 Couch Co Op – Where And How Can You Play It?

Many are excited to play the latest main installment in the Diablo series – Diablo 4. However, while many people plan to play it all by themselves or with their friends that are miles away, some want to clear out everything that the game offers side by side. Previous games had limited options, but does Diablo 4 couch co op work differently?

Is Diablo 4 couch co op available on PC?

Unfortunately, while Diablo 4 does have multiplayer, if you are planning to take some days off and play with your best friend while sitting on a couch together on Diablo 4 release day, you will not be able to do so. The PC version of the game does not have couch co op where you can both play on a single screen.

In order to play with someone on PC, you will both have to play on your own computers, and each of you will require to have your own copy of the game. There is no friend pass or anything like that if you are playing on PC, and the only way to have that couch co-op experience is if you put your PCs side by side as people did during good old lan parties in the early 2000s.

Can I play Diablo 4 co op on Xbox and PlayStation?

While the PC version does not offer couch co-op, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 have co-op available. One thing that is different from the previous major title, which is Diablo 3, is that the number of players available in couch co-op is going to be reduced from four to two.

Playing Diablo 3 with four people sitting next to each other was something that a lot of people enjoyed, but it made things quite chaotic, hence why the experience in Diablo 4 is limited to two players only. Having only two players share one screen makes for a better experience for the players in terms of gameplay, but those with a bigger friend circle might find it disappointing.

Is Diablo 4 split screen available?

Diablo 4 is available in split screen only on consoles. You cannot play split screen on a PC, but only on an Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. What this means is that you will not be able to play local co-op on PC, but you can definitely do that on consoles.

While multiplayer on PC requires everyone to have their own copy of the game, when it comes to the mentioned consoles and the local split-screen way to enjoy the game, playing it with a single copy is possible.

Many PC gamers find this quite unfair, but considering that previous Diablo titles offered the same experience, at least it does not feel like a feature has been taken away.

To play Diablo 4 in split screen, all you have to do is press a button on player two’s controller, and you will enjoy the co-op benefits of getting a 10% bonus experience from all sources in the game.

It is important to note that this bonus is obtainable even in non-split screen co-op on PC if you join a party with another player.

Is Diablo 4 online only?

One thing that makes Diablo 4 different from the previous titles is that it is an online title only. This means you will always have to be connected to the internet to play the game. Even if you are playing on a PC and want to enjoy the game all by yourself, you will still have to connect to the servers.

The same can be said for the couch co op experiences that people can have on their Xbox or PlayStation. No matter how you want to play Diablo 4, you will not be able to experience the game without having other players running around during your adventures.

Because of that, you might find a shortcut to finishing the game on harder difficulties by accessing better gear through the game’s trading system, even if there is no auction house like Diablo 3 had on launch.
