How to Summon a Golem in Diablo 4 – Finishing the Golem Quest
Raising corpses and summoning hordes of undead has always been one of the coolest things to do in a Diablo game. Necromancers, being the only Diablo 4 class able to perform such feats, were always the fan favorites. This unique appeal was not lost in Diablo 4, and Necromancers are still incredibly popular, despite being rather weak when the game first launched.
Necromancers can tap into the world of undeath, able to bring the dead to life and trapping souls in large husks of meat and bone, to serve them in battle. But the most iconic Necromancer summon has to be the Golem, a large monstrosity capable of inflicting massive damage and wreaking havoc to anything in its path.
Summoning a giant golem is still a possibility in Diablo 4, however, a surprising number of players have difficulty figuring out how to do it. In this article we’ll explain Diablo 4 how to summon Golem, and teach you all the basics you need to know.

How to Summon Golem in Diablo 4
The golem in Diablo 4 doesn’t simply appear in your skill book like the rest of your skills, but instead, you have to do a particular quest that unlocks this giant behemoth.
It all starts with a quest called “Call of the Underworld,” which unlocks as soon as you hit level 25. This is a priority quest that will automatically be added to your Journal, so you’ll spot it immediately when you reach the required level.
Steps to Complete the Golem Quest
Here are the required steps to complete the “Call of the Underworld” quest and unlock your very own Golem.
- Pay your respects at the Shrine of Rathma – this part will involve you visiting a shrine of Rathma, the first necromancer and the son of Lilith and Inarius. The shrine is located in Western Sarkova Pass. Once you find it, you’ll interact with a ghostly figure called Maltorius, who will provide you with the next quest.
- Collect Unbroken Bones – Maltorius wants you to collect 12 bones of defeated Bone Warriors. These bones will be required to form the skeleton of your Golem later. You shouldn’t have any issues with this quest as the bone drop rate is fairly high.
- Find the cave that holds the artifact – This step will require you to locate a cave found on Melnik’s Hill. You learn a bit about Melnik and why the hill was named after him, but more importantly, you find the clue that the artifact you’re looking for is located in a place called Bitter Cave.
- Explore the Bitter Cave – This cave is a dungeon which you must explore to find the artifact. Within, you’ll find the Jar of Souls, the very artifact you’ve been looking for. However, the artifact is empty and you must fill it by harvesting souls.
- Fill the Jar of Souls – The Bitter Cave will have plenty of skeletal fiends for you to hunt in order to fill the jar. You should see a bar filling up on the side of your screen, indicating when the Jar is completely full.
- Talk to Maltorius again – As soon as you fill the Jar of Souls, Maltorius shows up at your location, and after speaking to him, you are granted the ability to summon your Necromancer Golem.
This quest is not particularly long, nor is it really hard, so you should be able to do it with pretty much any Diablo 4 Necromancer build.
I Obtained my Golem, but How do I Summon it?
This is where the majority of players get confused and begin scratching their head. They finish the quest for the Golem, but can’t seem to figure out how to summon Golem in Diablo 4. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

To actually summon and use your golem, you’ll have to do a few quick things.
- If you check your Necromancer abilities, you’ll notice that Golem is nowhere to be found. However, if you press S and go to your Skills, you’ll see that Golem is now active and can be dragged over to your ability bar.
- You might need to make some room if your ability bar is full. Simply refund an active skill and drag your Golem ability in its place.
Enjoy Your New Golem
You’ve finally reached the end of the road and acquired your Golem to summon in battle. This is an extremely durable summon that will tank and protect you, while you stand behind and watch the battle unfold. It is possible to further enhance your Golem through the unique Necromancer mechanic called “Book of the Dead,” where you can choose different summons to focus on.
Additionally, there are certain Diablo 4 items that affect your summons, including the Golem, as well as a unique aspect called “Hulking Aspect,” which can reduce the active cooldown of your golem.
All in all, Golem is super fun to use in Diablo 4 and very much worth acquiring as early as possible into your playthrough.
