Diablo 4 Items – What Do All The Colors Mean?

If there is a lesson to be learned from Diablo 3, it is the one where players are really passionate about the items in the game and the loot system that the game works around. While the Diablo 3 system was fixed in later updates, Diablo 4 items are working quite well on launch and allow players a deep level of character customization.

What are the Diablo 4 Items rarities?

There are five different item rarities in the game, and color represents each rarity:

  • Normal – White
  • Magic – Blue
  • Rare – Yellow
  • Legendary – Orange
  • Unique – Gold

What does each rarity mean?

Normal Items

When it comes to normal items, these are the items that you will see pretty much everywhere, and just like your Diablo 4 beta items that are useless once the game launches, the only use that you will have for these is to sell them or not even loot them if your inventory is packed. Considering the stats of normal items, they have only a single modifier, which is not that useful.

Magic Items

Early game, these are somewhat useful for certain Diablo 4 classes, as they can give some good stats in certain situations. However, as you progress further into the game, you will discover that the blue-text items are only useful for disenchanting materials and not much else. Just like Normal Items, Magic Items have one random modifier.

Rare Items

As you level through Diablo 4, you are going to have fewer and less of Rare items on you as they are going to be replaced by Legendary and Unique items. However, while most of them will have garbage stats compared to Legendaries at higher levels, the stats may be useful for certain slots, at least for a little while. Make sure to check out the stats before you get rid of them for good.

Legendary Items

As you get closer to the end game, your character will be wearing Diablo 4, all Legendary items, and any other tier lower than Legendary will be disenchanted or vendored. Legendary items are bound to your character, so you will unfortunately not have the ability to trade them away between your friends. There are multiple tiers within the Legendary Item tiers as well:

  • Diablo 4 Regular Legendary items will drop throughout the whole game, even at lower levels.
  • Diablo 4 Sacred items are a bit higher in power than Regular Legendary items, and they are obtained only once the player reaches higher levels.
  • Diablo 4 Ancestral items are the best Legendary quality items in the game. These will easily replace any gear that you are wearing when you see them drop. It is important to note that these items are available only at the highest levels of the game.

Unique Items

When it comes to those beautiful items with gold colors, they are pretty much the Diablo 4 Mythic items, but they are now called Unique items instead. This type of item was technically not around since Diablo 2, and the way they work is amazing. All Unique tier items are built in a way that they going to define a build of your character, have incredible aesthetics, and of course, will be incredibly powerful. Also, as their name suggests, you can only equip one at a time.

What are Aspects?

Aspects in Diablo 4 are basically the type of stats that certain gear can have. The developers predetermine them, and you cannot change these stats. There are five big categories: Offensive, Defensive, Utility, Mobility, and Resource. These are the Aspects that Diablo 4 items can have:

  • Helm – Defensive, Utility, Resource
  • Chest– Defensive, Utility
  • Gloves – Offensive, Utility
  • Pants – Defensive
  • Boots – Mobility, Utility
  • Weapon – Offensive
  • Rings – Offensive, Resource
  • Amulets – Offensive, Defensive, Utility, Mobility, Resource (All five)

What Affixes and how can you change them on items?

Affixes are pretty much also called bonuses or modifiers, and they are the magical properties of Diablo 4 items. There are quite a lot of Affixes in the game, and their number and value depend on the item’s tier. Items can have up to 4 Affixes and 1 Aspect.

You can change the Affix on your item at the Occultist. However, keep in mind when you change one Affix, the rest of them are going to get locked in, and you will never be able to change them again, so think before you commit to change.

Can you upgrade items?

Of course, Diablo 4 comes with item upgrading, and you can do it at the Occultist by spending your hard-earned gold. You can upgrade each item up to four times, and with each upgrade, you will increase the item level and its power. The only stats that are not upgraded is the Aspect.

What are gem sockets?

Gem slots are something that certain items can have to provide even more stats. You can put almost any Affix into the gem slots, and if you happen to pick up an item that only has two slots, you can upgrade it at the Jeweler NPC for two more slots.

Diablo 4 Cross Game Items

A lot of players are worried about platform-exclusive items, but there is nothing to worry about. All items that are obtainable on PC are also obtainable on Xbox and Play Station, and you will be able to cross-progress if you happen to have a copy of the game for each platform.
