Twisting Blades Rogue Build

To make this build work, you must initiate combat using Shadow Step to get closer to your enemies. The Rogue is often seen as one of the glass cannon Diablo 4 classes, but this build can help you survive at close range while dealing lots of damage. Twisting Blades is the most powerful damage skill you’ll be upgrading, together with Shadow Imbuement for infections damage. You’ll also be using the Bladedancer’s Aspect for AoE damage.

Getting Started

There are a couple of variations of Diablo 4 Rogue gameplay options. However, the four primary skills are Twisting Blades, Shadow Imbuement, Shadow Step, and Dash. You can choose the Puncture (ranged) or Blade Shift (melee) at the first node. For this build, it is recommended that you take Blade Shift, although you could upgrade Puncture to make enemies Vulnerable.

Basic Skills

The Basic Skills are designed to be spammable and deal small damage. They can be used to regenerate Energy or apply debuffs. As the Rogue class, you should make good use of the Combo Points Specialization. You can do this by mainly using Basic Skills to regenerate Combo Points.

Resource

The Rogue class relies on Energy as their main resource to use the most powerful skills. Energy in Diablo 4 will regenerate slowly on its own. You can increase the regeneration rate with specific effects that are tied to talents, gear, and skills.

High-value passives to consider early

  • Sturdy – will help with sustainability.
  • Siphoning Strikes – will heal you from critical strikes.
  • Precision Imbuement – will increase the crit rate for imbued skills.

The most important aspect of this Build is the Bladedancer’s Aspect. It causes the Twisting Blades skill to orbit around the player upon their return, which then deals additional short-range damage. The Aspect of Surprise is also good in this case, as it drops a group of Stun Grenades behind you when you use the Shadow Step or just an average evade ability. Those who chose the Puncture skill should pair it up with Ravenous Aspect.

Twisting Blades Playstyle

Whether this Diablo 4 Rogue Build would suit your preferences, all really comes down to its playstyle. The Twisting Blades playstyle is fast-paced and mobile, so you are expected to bounce around targets and fire off skills whenever possible.

Shadow Step

This is the Agility Skill of the Twisting Blades Diablo 4 Rogue build. It allows players to move fast with increased Movement Speed. It also grants Unstoppable, which means that you can smoothly bounce around enemies without getting debilitated. With Unstoppable, all CC effects that you’ve had previously will automatically be removed, as you also gain immunity from any future CC.

  • Enhanced Shadow Step will raise the Critical Strike Chance.
  • Methodical Shadow will Stun enemies each time you use Shadow Step.

Shadow Imbuement

You’ll be able to choose the type of damage you deal, and in this build picking Shadow Imbuement to convert damage into Shadow Damage is important. This way, you can infect multiple targets and set off explosions. If one of the infected targets dies, the Rogue can deal AoE damage against all surrounding enemies. Investing in Blended Shadow Imbuement will increase damage. If the targets remain alive after the infection ends, they will receive extra damage, so there is still a high chance that you might end up killing them.

Puncture

This is a Basic Skill for this Diablo 4 Rogue gameplay. It lets you throw blades at targets to deal damage. However, the Slow condition is what makes it useful, which can be inflicted when casting Puncture three times to maximize the Combo Points. With more Combo Points, you can amplify the burst damage of Twisting Blades. As soon as you accumulate enough points, you should activate Twisting Blades. Make sure to also invest in Fundamental Puncture, which raises the number of blades and increases damage.

Twisting Blades

Fundamental Puncture and Twisting Blades work hand-in-hand as you impale vulnerable enemies, dealing a lot of damage. Twisting Blades will trigger the boomerang effect, meaning the blades will travel back to you, piercing through all the nearby targets.

This is the main skill of this Diablo 4 Rogue skills build, so it is important that you max it out and then get the Advanced Twisting Blades and Enhanced Twisting Blades.

  • Advanced Twisting Blades – will lower active cooldowns based on how many enemies hit with the boomerang effect.
  • Enhanced Twisting Blades – will amplify damage dealt of the returning blades.

Dash

Allows you to deal damage when darting from one point to the next. You can use it to disengage or engage; the skill does not require any enhancements. Dashing from one group of enemies to the other can help increase Piercing Damage caused by the returning blades.

Other Diablo 4 Rogue Builds to Try

Rapid Fire

This build will focus on farming Vuln and crits using agility and the Puncture base skill. When you build up buffs, you can use Rapid Fire from a safe distance, dealing massive damage to bosses.

This build is great for soloing bosses like Ashava, but it does lack in the AoE department.

Penetrating Shot

The Penetrating Shot build is similar to the Rapid Fire playstyle, with the exception of excelling in mobbing. Using Puncture, Crit, and Vuln stacks, you are able to deal burst damage with Penetrating Shots. When combined with Shadow Imbuement, the Puncturing Shot makes lining up enemies a lot easier. That said, this build does not do great with single-target damage. Players could opt for using poison or Cold Imbuement to improve map clearing speed, but for single targets, you’ll have to use the Rapid Fire instead.

Conclusion

The Twisting Blades Rogue build can be adjusted to fit your personal playstyle. It is important to remember that the Rogue class uses a Specialization after level 15, and this does impact how you generate and spend energy and cooldowns, resulting in making some builds better or worse. Feel free to play around with the build or try to create your own.
