When it comes to the hack-and-slash genre, the Diablo series is by far one of the best there is. Many would agree that Diablo is what started the genre’s popularity. However, it has been quite a while since 1997, when the original Diablo took the world by storm, and today, we are at the fourth installment of the game, and there are many games like Diablo 4 out there.
There are not that many factors that define games like Diablo 4. The games have to fulfill the genre of hack and slash and, of course, action role-play games. It is quite difficult to find a game that uses all of the mechanics that Diablo 4 has to offer. However, there are many games out there that will give you that amazing feeling like Diablo 4 does.
Finding the best game, like Diablo 4, is definitely quite a challenge. As we said, it is quite easy to fulfill the category that fits this genre. Because of that, many will find affection for certain titles that we list further in the article while completely disliking other ones. While we will not cover every possible option, we will include diverse titles so there is something for everyone.
@ Path of Exile
One of the best games that constantly keeps giving content to its players is definitely Path of Exile. While many are repulsed by this game as soon as they open up the talent tree, which is much bigger than a Diablo 4 skill tree, the game offers something for absolutely anyone to enjoy.
There are numerous builds that a player can take, and even if not all of them are viable to be at the top of the competitive gameplay, some of them are going to provide you with the most joy that an action RPG game has to offer.
Path of Exile is free to play, and while it still might take you some time to catch up to veteran players, thanks to a seasonal system, you will not have to make up for all the years that the game has been out. While Path of Exile is a game that can be on par with Diablo 4 when it comes to content and entertainment, Path of Exile 2, which is yet to be released, will probably be an even better competitor.

@ Lost Ark
If you checked out a couple of lists that are similar to ours, you might have seen Lost Ark on some of them while other ones completely left it out, and there is a reason for that. The main reason why Lost Ark might not fit a Diablo-like game is that it is essentially an MMORPG and a bit less of an action RPG.
However, if you choose to play completely solo or just with a few friends, you are going to get the exact experience that Diablo 4 has to offer. The game is free to play, just like our previous mention, and while PoE is praised by its player base for the F2P model, Lost Ark does become a bit grindy at a certain point.
Nevertheless, Lost Ark is definitely one of the best games when it comes to both graphics and gameplay and if you are looking for a quick taste of something similar to what Diablo 4 classes have to offer, you might find yourself playing for hours when Diablo 4 leaves you with nothing to do.
@ Hades
While Hades might not be a game for everyone who is a fan of Diablo 4, it is certainly something that we cannot skip out on recommending. It is a roguelike action RPG game that won Game of the Year 2021, which is quite an achievement.
The art style, music, and of course, the gameplay will leave you stunned as you grind through the underworld of ancient Greece in order to face off against Hades. Prepare for some intense moments and challenges with this one.
@ Bastion
Unlike the previous mention, which heavily focuses on combat and mechanics that revolve around it, Bastion is an action RPG that focuses on storytelling. Of course, you will have a taste of some other elements that you can find in Diablo 4, but the story is the element that will keep you going.
Besides slaying monsters, you will often find yourself with a few puzzles to solve, which might slow down the pace for some Diablo 4 enjoys. Those who like taking a break from constant fighting will definitely appreciate Bastion.
@ Titan Quest
Everyone who was looking for action RPGs to fill their needs of hacking and slashing during the Diablo 2 LoD era has probably heard of Titan Quest. It is a single-player aRPG game released in 2006, and it is known to be some of the best experiences that you can find to the Diablo series.
While you will not bump into any players during your Titan Quest playthrough, the world that the game is built will keep you invested, along with its fantastic gameplay. The graphics might be a bit outdated at this point for some tastes, but they still hold a certain charm.
@ Torchlight 2
Microsoft released quite a lot of bangers when it comes to PC gaming in the early 2000s and 2010s, and Torchlight 2, released in 2012, was definitely a game that many aRPG fans are familiar with. It is a multiplayer game available on many platforms, and despite its release date that is over ten years ago, the game is available on some consoles, which gives that Diablo 4 couch co op feeling.
While there are many other games similar to Diablo 4 out there, the ones we listed are going to be more than enough to keep you entertained for hours, especially if you are planning to jump back into the fray of Diablo 4 once a new patch is released.
