Who is Lilith?

Following Diablo’s lore, Lilith is the daughter of the universe’s most powerful entity, Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred. There is some indication that Lilith might possibly be the daughter of the Sister of Lucion, Ariel. She is a demon caught in the war between High Heavens and the Burning Hells, wanting to create a new realm between the two, providing an escape from the ceaseless war.

The Rise of the Nephalem

Lilith has also been romantically linked to a former Archangel Inarius. This relationship led to the creation of the first Nephalem. Lilith and Inarius created the human world together as a place for their son, Linarian, to live without the interference of Angels and Demons.

Of course, both sides of the war saw their union and offspring as an abomination. As their son became more powerful, Linarian’s existence became a threat. This led both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells to turn their attention to the human world, slaughtering as many Nephalem as possible.

Because of this, The Queen of the Succubi (Lilith) went mad and decided that the only way to protect her family was to destroy Heaven and Hell. She then waged war on both, which led to Inarius exiling her to the Void, because he couldn’t kill her.

After years and years had passed, the Nephalem eventually evolved into humanity, so it became tough to identify who was human and who was not. Lilith will return in Diablo 4, as seen in the trailer. As the Prime Evils and Aegis Council have been destroyed, the Sanctuary restored Lilith.

Lilith’s Role in Diablo 4

Lilith will be the main antagonist of Diablo 4. She is connected to the players through visions as you learn her true intentions and how the two of you are connected. There is a high chance that we will see Inarius again as her former lover. It’s also likely that Lilith’s motivations are more sympathetic than Diablo’s, considering her connection to her son. But that never stopped her from manipulating others to do her evil bidding.

Considering that this is Lilith’s first fleshed-out appearance, the community went wild. We saw her in Diablo 2, but only as a black and grey reskin of Andariel’s model, so this is exciting to everyone who enjoyed the lore. It’s no secret that Lilith’s attentions aren’t pure, and there is a chance that she might try to recruit the players to her cause, as they are likely also to be Nephalem.

But this is all open for debate, as there is not much known about Diablo 4 Lilith yet, as the majority of the players are still playing through the Diablo 4 story campaign!
