Favorites prevail in EWC 2024 CS2 day one

The Esports World Cup 2024 CS2 tournament is well underway, with eight best-of-three matches already determining the first set of teams arriving in the Playoffs. It’s been an explosive day at the EWC 2024 CS2 event so far, with favorites in each matchup largely prevailing.
Let’s take a look at the key action from the tournament so far.
NAVI survive new-look FURIA

Although map one was sure to provide a slight scare for any NAVI fans out there, the team will be happy as they secured their place in the Esports World Cup 2024 Playoffs with a win over a new-look FURIA, where skullz made his debut. It was a pretty simple two-map affair all around, and most pre-match had NAVI down as favorites regardless.
Here, NAVI looked to b1t for inspiration. The NAVI stalwart posted a 46-25 series, although w0nderful also impressed with a 36-24 scoreline. Over on FURIA’s side, it was the same old story. KSCERATO hard carries, is let down by his team, and loses. Some things never change.
Spirit keep player break momentum

After winning the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024 before the player break, many were worried Spirit would struggle to keep the momentum going. Those concerns were put to rest in Riyadh, as they romped to a quick victory of MIBR. 13-4 and 13-3 scorelines meant they were never in any kind of trouble against the Brazilians, who simply couldn’t compete with the class on display.
While the conversation around Spirit usually surrounds donk, that wasn’t the case here. Instead, it was magixx taking over the server, offering a reminder of what he’s capable of on his day. If all of Spirit turns up as they did here, they have to progress through the EWC 2024 as big favorites going forward.
G2 debut to a W

With G2 facing The MongolZ in the Esports World Cup 2024 CS2 opening matches, there was a very real chance this new squad could struggle on their debut. After all, The MongolZ are no pushovers. However, G2 managed to get off to a solid start, taking a 2:0 series. Just a few rounds swing this series the other way though, with one map going to Overtime, and the other playing out all 24 rounds.
While Snax did his best HooXi impression on map one, he looked a little more comfortable on map two of Inferno. New kid malbsMd offered up a very impressive debut, showcasing multiple times the mechanics that saw G2 take a chance on him during the player break. G2 might not be favorites to win the EWC 2024 CS2 event, but this is a solid start.
All of the results at the Esports World Cup 2024 CS2 day one are as follows:
- G2 2:0 The MongolZ
- FaZe 2:0 FlyQuest
- MOUZ 2:1 Sashi
- Vitality 2:0 M80
- NAVI 2:0 FURIA
- Spirit 2:0 MIBR
- Virtus.pro 2:0 Complexity
