G2 and SAW first out at BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024

We’re a couple of days into the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024 now, and six teams have secured their spot in London’s OVO Arena Wembley. Four teams are locked in for the Quarter-Finals, while two have already reached the Semi-Finals of the tournament. However, after just two days of action, two teams have been sent packing from the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024.

We’ve got you covered on the key points from the Group Stage, setting you up with all you need to know before the Playoffs begin.

First to exit the competition was SAW. We had the Portuguese team bottom of our BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024 power rankings, so it’s no surprise to see them take a swift exit after two 2:0 losses. They haven’t quite lived up to the promise they showed earlier in the year of late, so the player break comes at a good time for SAW. It was a thumping against Astralis that sealed their fate in London, where they were simply outclassed. This was just a tournament too far for SAW – we can’t exactly glean too much from their showing here.

Then, there’s G2. Visa issues meant m0NESY missed the first game against Spirit, although 38-year-old coach TaZ performed admirably in his stead. A mad dash meant that m0NESY arrived in the building just minutes before the second match against Vitality, but his appearance so soon after hopping off a plane meant he understandably struggled to live up to his own lofty standards. G2 took a map, but it wasn’t enough to topple Vitality. Now, G2’s season finishes with a whimper, leaving the state of this roster going forward in great uncertainty.

Spirit and NAVI top Groups

While G2 and SAW face the doom and gloom, Spirit and NAVI exist on the other side of the bracket. Both have already secured their spots in the Semi-Finals of the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024, guaranteeing a top-four finish in the process. Here’s how they did it.

Spirit were fortunate to face G2 in the opener, the latter suffering without their star AWPer. Still, you can only beat whoever is in front of you. There was nothing fortunate about their win over Virtus.pro, however. They essentially steamrolled the team in 2:0 fashion, with donk once again showing why he’s rated as one of the best CS2 players on the planet right now. He’s having himself a tournament in London, and we know what that usually means.

NAVI’s path to the Semis in London has been mighty impressive so far. Their win over Astralis was more than convincing on day one, and a 2:1 win over FaZe on day two showed there’s a ton of mental resilience left in this team yet. The FaZe match particularly showed what NAVI are made of – on the final map of Mirage, they had to come back from 7:0 down to eventually secure the map 13:10. Some will say it’s a FaZe throw, but NAVI still have to win the rounds. Victory in London would put NAVI on two trophies for 2024 – a respectable haul after their March Major win.

The next matches at the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024 are:

  • FaZe vs. Vitality
  • Astralis vs. Virtus.pro
