Imperial reaches Thunderpick WC 2024 in SA Qualifier

After six days of action, the Thunderpick World Championship 2024 has finally found its South American representative. The best teams from across the region came together to be in with a chance to reach the event, which will boast an $850,000 prize pool when it takes place in October later this year. However, only one could come out on top – let’s see what happened.

Imperial managed to overcome an opening map loss against 9z, reverse-sweeping the series in 2:1 fashion. A Dust 2 opener wasn’t ideal for the team, who managed to bring it back on Mirage and Anubis maps that weren’t particularly competitive. The win in the Grand Final secures their place in the Thunderpick World Championship 2024, where they’ll be headed to LAN later this year.
The series saw a few impressive Imperial performances all around. HEN1, VINI, and decenty all performed around the same level, contributing massively to the series win. Both felps and noway struggled here, but we’re not too worried given their form throughout the rest of 2024. This is one of the rare teams where every member can frag out of their minds, which make Imperial consistently fun to watch.
Imperial’s run overall
Looking at the teams in the Thunderpick World Championship 2024 SA Qualifier on paper, you’d have to say that Imperial beat all of the best squads in the competition. On their way to the final, they beat KRÜ, BESTIA, and Fluxo, all without losing a map. Fluxo is the most impressive win here, as Imperial allowed no honeymoon period following a series of roster changes at Fluxo.
Undoubtedly, Imperial have earned their spot at the Thunderpick World Championship 2024. We’ve already seen Imperial do some damage against top Tier 1 teams at tournaments such as the PGL Major Copenhagen. Hopefully, they can continue trading blows with the best teams and cause some problems at the Thunderpick WC in October this year.
