OG Eye Up cadiaN in Surprise Move After Benching nicoodoz and Chr1zN
There’s shock news coming out of OG as they have benched two of their most valuable players, Christoffer “Chr1zN” Storgaard and Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi – and the rumoured replacement is an even bigger curveball.
Alongside the announcement of the benching of the two outgoing players, OG later followed up by posting a statement that reaffirmed their intention to “invest further into the scene,” citing the stability of an ecosystem that is “more structured, competitive, and full of opportunity than ever before.”
The investment promised is already being reported on, with Dust2dk saying that it’s already a “done deal” that the team will be signing former HEROIC, Liquid, and Astralis player Casper “cadiaN” Moller. The veteran Dane is known for his AWP IGLing, but put away the big green during his time on Astralis.
Given that Chr1zN was OG’s IGL and nicoodoz their AWPer prior to both being benched, as one of the best teams in tier 2 of Counter-Strike, it’s entirely possible that cadiaN’s return to action six months after his Astralis benching could see him pick up AWPing once more.
After leading HEROIC to new heights during the final stages of CS:GO, cadiaN has experienced a downturn in his career since the release of CS2. First, there was his surprise benching by HEROIC in the “stabbi” incident, followed by his big Liquid move, which never really got off the ground due to team chemistry issues.
Even his move to Astralis failed to work; he struggled to adapt to rifling with the same level of success that Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo has enjoyed in recent months with FURIA.
What’s Next for Chr1zN and nicoodoz?
As for the outgoing players, Chr1zN stated in a tweet that the decision was mutual, with both parties agreeing that “this is the right time to take different paths.” It’s a statement that has already caused the CS world to speculate, with commentator and analyst Michael “YouM3” Cassidy saying that it “only makes sense” if Chr1zN has been approached with a “serious offer from a T1 team.”
Nicoodoz didn’t allude to any form of mutual decision within his own statement; however, he did say that he would be open to offers in Valorant.
Neither player should struggle to find offers in Counter-Strike, though, especially given how much of a surprise it is to see OG be willing to part ways with them. Chr1zN is regarded as one of the best young IGLs in Counter-Strike and seemed destined for a move to Astralis before Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen joined, whilst nicoodoz is known for being one of the most consistent, impactful players within tier two.
The duo were key figures in OG qualifying for the BLAST Austin Major despite a low VRS ranking at the start of the year, with nicoodoz then going on to have one of the greatest single-map performances in Major history in the opening game of the tournament versus Complexity, beating them 13-3 on Ancient whilst picking up a monstrous 3.12 rating.
