Stewie2K Responds to Allegations of Owing $25,000 in Skins and Crypto
Jacky “Stewie2K” Yip, one of the most iconic Counter-Strike players in the world, is under fire for allegedly scamming a trader by the name of MitaoCatCS for $25,000 worth of skins and cryptocurrency.
The allegations surfaced on social media, where Mitao shared screenshots and messages between the two parties. Stewie has since responded on his live stream, saying he will pay back the money – though many remain skeptical after multiple unfulfilled promises.
Stewie2K Accused of Mishandling Trader’s Skins
According to skin trader Mitao, the former Major champion started selling CS2 skins to him in private deals. Due to the American’s immense reputation in the scene, Mitao reportedly sent advance payments before receiving the items, essentially going first in all transactions. However, problems began piling up, as Stewie would allegedly change the terms of deals midway and even fail to send the agreed skins.
In the screenshots provided by Mitao, the skins Stewie apparently sold to him were stored on a gambling site, and the latter was unable to withdraw and send the items in time. The 27-year-old continued to delay payments and was even accused of photoshopping screenshots of trade reversals and items to buy himself more time.
The deals totaled around $25,000 in skins and cryptocurrency. However, the agreed prices were set weeks ago, before the CS2 skin market crash. Now, with many knives dropping significantly in value, it’s unclear whether Stewie will repay the dollar amount or return the skins instead.
Other traders and community members came forward with similar stories, alleging that Stewie attempted to borrow or trade skins but failed to deliver according to the agreed-upon terms.
Top streamer Félix “xQc” Lengyel also chimed in during a stream, claiming he lent Stewie skins to use at the Major, and that there were one or two skins missing upon return. However, xQc also mentioned he was sure he would pay Mitao back.
Stewie2K Responds to Allegations
On the same day that accusations surfaced, Stewie still went live on Twitch, addressing the issue. He admitted to owing Mitao money, but brushed off the drama:
“You know what’s crazy, bro? I don’t really care. Look, I’m gonna pay him back before the 1st [of November]. You crazy, bro.”
According to Mitao, this date aligns with a new grace period he gave Stewie to repay the debt.
While he technically acknowledges the issue, many fans were unhappy with Stewie’s dismissive tone and casual reaction.
Growing Trend in CS2 Scene
Unfortunately, Stewie’s situation isn’t the first like this. Earlier this year, former Apeks player Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad also made headlines after reportedly owing over $300,000 worth of skins, showcasing another example of how even established pros can find themselves entangled in such situations.
The community is disappointed with how Stewie walked down the wrong path. Former coach and analyst Aleksandar “kassad” Trifunović, alongside many others, questioned how Stewie, who made over $1.1 million in prize winnings, could end up in a dispute over a comparatively small amount.
For now, all eyes are on November 1st, as we’ll see whether he follows through after numerous delays.
