On October 19, pro players, Artour “Arteezy” Babaev and Kim “Gabbi” Villafuerte became one of the first ten players to reach 11K MMR. In comparison, the average Dota 2 player’s MMR is approximately 2,300 MMR.
There are currently only a handful of players in the 11k MMR club. The first player to reach the milestone was Abed Azel L. Yusop back in May. Since then, only seven other players have reached the milestone.
It’s been a while since we heard from Arteezy and Evil Geniuses. Their last official game was during the Omega League Immortal Division in Europe, where they played against notable European teams such as Team Secret and OG. Since then, EG has not participated in any North American event, nor do we have any news about EG’s upcoming roster.
That said, Evil Geniuses now has the most 11K MMR players in their roster, with Arteezy being the latest addition of the bunch. In a recent tweet by the Canadian player, he quoted CCnC for not hitting the 11K goal before him.
On the same day, TNC Predator’s Gabbi also hit the new record. What’s impressive is that, it only took Gabbi 43 days to go from 10K to 11K MMR, which is an insanely short duration. Of course, being pro players themselves, these guys have a hefty routine of playing games.
Like most salarymen, they also have to work/play for more than 9 hours every day.
Speaking of Asia, the region is home to the most 11K MMR players right now. Some notable players include the Thai prodigy, Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon, who recently moved to Chinese powerhouse, Vici Gaming. It’s no surprise that Vici Gaming would go so far as to hire a personal translator and Mandarin language teacher for the young superstar just to have him on the roster.
Then, there’s Karl “Karl” Jayme. Last seen playing for Geek Fam, Karl showcased exceptional skills and team morale in his games. Being a mid-player himself, it’s his calling to deliver good plays and set up a clear advantage for his team. After winning the ONE Esports SEA League and BTS Pro Series S3 SEA, Geek Fam faced internal problems and ultimately disbanded. He is currently focused on building a new team in Team 032.
Andreas Franck “Cr1t-” Nielsen, member and captain of Evil Geniuses has the honor of being the first Support player to reach 11k MMR. Cr1t- has become a crucial part of what defines EG over the years. From the drafts to making sure he’s at his best as a support player, Cr1t- is certainly a player you do not want to face in your games.
With three players on their roster, EG is now the penultimate MMR powerhouse on the planet. The team recently decided to go head-on against the other giants residing in Europe. They are set to shake up things in the competitive Dota circuit once again.
Back in June, we asked if the 10k club is still a big deal? At that time, the number of players reaching the milestone was slowly bubbling up making the “achievement” lose its value.
While we are talking about fractions of a percentage of players even able to achieve this insane MMR values, there is more value and press time when you are the first player to reach a new milestone or the first within a role to complete the task. Every subsequent addition to the club only lowers the value.
When it comes to the next potential milestone at 12k MMR, we might need to wait awhile. Valve’s decision to put MMR reset as an optional choice, does provide more players of the top 0.10% a chance to reach 11k. However, we do believe the next big milestone will be hit somewhere in early 2021.
11k MMR will likely stop being a big deal once 12k is broken or when more then 30 players reach the milestone. Until then, players can enjoy being members of the elitest of the elites club in Dota 2.
