Bali Major 2023 Playoffs Match Analysis and Predictions

The Bali Major 2023 has concluded its group stage with only twelve teams remaining. Southeast Asian participants took the worst hit as all three teams were eliminated. Other eliminated teams included nouns, Invictus Gaming, and unexpectedly, Evil Geniuses also kicked the bucket prematurely.

Specifically, EG placed last in their group, which is baffling since they were still the third team with the highest DPC points on the DPC Leaderboard. Regardless, EG already secured a direct invite to the International 12 (TI12), so it doesn’t matter.

Bali Major Group Stage – Final Standings

Team Liquid vs PSG.LGD

The Bali Major Playoffs are up next, with the upper bracket matches to boot. PSG.LGD will have to face off against the top seeds from Group A, Team Liquid, so things will be rough.

Liquid’s dominance in its group is anticipated, but perhaps more clean sweeps would have given Liquid a more confident appeal. Nevertheless, Liquid is indisputably stronger on paper, having placed second in two Majors, falling short only to Gaimin Gladiators. PSG.LGD may have done well to qualify for every major in the Dota Pro Circuit 2023 (DPC 2023) season. However, without their wunderkind Wang “Ame” Chunyu on the forefront, PSG.LGD is barely clenching for survival.

Unlike EG, which can flop the Bali Major carefree since they qualified for TI12, PSG.LGD is at the brim of missing their TI12 direct invite slot. They must secure a minimum eight-place finish if they hope to have a confident chance of staying in the top twelve on DPC Leaderboard. Unfortunately, this match-up versus Liquid is as good as over.

BetBoom Team vs Tundra Esports

This is BetBoom’s first major where they didn’t get eliminated in the group stage, so kudos to the Eastern European squad. This all-star powerhouse has all the right candidates in the team to rival most opponents but just doesn’t fare well in majors.

However, the tides could change now that they have made the playoffs. Although Betboom performed phenomenally to snatch victories off strong teams, such as Gaimin and 9Pandas, Tundra Esports is no pushover.

Sure, Tundra placed third in their group, but they did not lose any series, a telltale sign of their impeccable defence.

Beastcoast vs Gaimin Gladiators

After two consecutive victories, the fans are rooting for Gaimin to win the third major as well to become the first team ever to win every major in a DPC.

Frankly, beastcoast is severely outmatched by the two-time major champion for us ever to consider them a threat. But, if there’s a key takeaway from beastcoast’s group stage performance, it’s that much like Tundra, they didn’t drop a single series. They tied against two of the Western European Big Trio, Liquid and Tundra. But it’s difficult to side beastcoast when they are up against a formidable opponent like Gaimin.

Quest Esports vs Team Aster

Last but not least, is an interesting match-up that isn’t heavily one-sided yet. Quest Esports shocked the competition in their group by placing first. While that seems like great results on paper, they didn’t actually manage to sweep the series against Gaimin and 9Pandas. The other opponents, namely nouns, Bleed Esports and EG, were essentially free scores, considering their underwhelming performance.

That said, Team Aster is not an overwhelming threat at the Bali Major, which contrasted fans’ expectations of a Chinese powerhouse with Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan. Even in the DreamLeague S20 and DPC China Tour 3 Division 1 bracket, Aster barely managed to stay afloat. Perhaps we had too high hopes for the King’s strength in the Chinese powerhouse.

Anyways, one thing’s for certain, SumaiL assured his team that they would qualify for TI12, so much is at stake in this match.

As of the conclusion of Bali Major group stage, PSG.LGD, beastcoast, BetBoom Team, and Team Aster are the only teams still in the running for a top-twelve finish on DPC Leaderboard. The teams that manage to secure a minimum eighth-place finish will have a higher chance of staying.

Additionally, TeamSoloMid also hasn’t finalized their DPC Leaderboard standing, but they are not in Bali Major for any extra points. Quest Esports also has a very slim chance of securing top twelve here, unless they manage to pull off a fourth-place or higher finish, which will require a miracle.
